7th Grade STEM Class Syllabus – Mr.

STEM class is driven by the focus areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
In an effort to improve student understanding of how each discipline interacts, students will:
 Construct devices in order to complete a specific task.
 Learn and practice the importance of cooperative teamwork.
 Develop ideas through brainstorming and careful planning.
 Practice accurate note-taking and journaling of progress.
 Reflect on performance and make suggestions for future improvements.

Course Grades:
Student grades will be based on total points earned divided by total points possible for each
project. That grade will then be calculated based on the current OEMS middle school grading
scale:
98 - 100% A+
94 – 97 % A
90 – 93 % A-
87 – 89 % B+
83 – 86 % B
80 – 82 % B-
77 – 79 % C+
73 – 76 % C
70 – 72 % C-
67 – 69 % D+
63 – 66 % D
60 – 62 % D-
59 % or less F

Course Guidelines / Expectations:

 All students are expected to work with partners or in groups for each project.
 All students are expected to handle group disagreements / conflicts in a positive
manner.
 All students are expected to follow normal classroom behavioral procedures.
 All students are expected to follow proper safety procedures when using specific tools
and equipment.
