A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a. Define what an integer is and give the rules involving operation (adding and subtracting)
integers.
b. Solve problems involving adding and subtracting integers.
c. Apply integers in real world application.

II SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Adding and Subtracting integers

References: Mathematics 21st. Century, E-Math 7.
Materials: flash cards, Manila paper
Values Integrations: Let the students to have determination, patient and active participation.
III PROCEDURE:

TEACHERS ACTIVITY STUDENT ACTIVITY

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY
- Opening Prayer
Class kindly stand for the opening ( The student will all stand up and pray)
prayer.
- Classroom management
Before you take your sit, kindly pick ( The student will pick pieces of papers and trash
up the pieces of paper or candy and arrange the chair properly)
wrapper under your chair, and arrange
your chair properly.
- Checking the attendance
Are there any absents today? None ma’am
Very good.

B. MOTIVATION
Mind game: THIS IS POSITIVE
AND THIS IS NEGATIVE Positive/Negative

So class how’s the game? Is it hard to

guess or easy? Hard / Easy
Do you want to know what the
technique is? Yes ma’am…

Ok! I will tell you the techniques later, Yes ma’am…

But before that please observe those

numbers that appears on this
flashcards. What can you say to these Whole numbers
numbers? They are what? Anyone? Negative numbers
Positive numbers
Exactly those are integers. Integers.
(Different response)
What is an integer? Integers are a whole numbers, (not a fractional
number) that can be a positive, negative or a zero.
Very Good! Today we are going to
discuss about adding and subtracting
integers. We say that integers are a
whole numbers that can be a positive,
negative or zero.
But how can we add and subtract
integers? With the same sign and
different sign? So let us have first this
activity.

C LESSON PROPER

Activity
I want you to group your selves into 3 ( The student form a 3 groups )
groups.
Now that you have grouped your selves, Yes ma’am.
I will give each group an activity sheets. All
members should be participating, ok? And don’t
make a loud noise. ( the teacher will distribute the
activity sheets to each group)

Activity task:
1. The teacher will divide the class into three
groups and will give those activity sheets
containing with problems operation. Each
group a task cards about the rules of adding
and subtracting integers
2. Each group must solve the problem on the
activity sheets.
3. After solving the problems the teacher will
choose students in the group to discuss
their activity work provided with his/her
guide questions.
Analysis
Teachers Guide Question
 What have you notice to your activity?
 How did you come up with your answer?
 What are the rules in adding and
subtracting integers?
 How we relate or apply integers in our
real world application?

Ok class. Time’s up. The student will stop what they are doing and will
sit properly
So may I call each group representative to Group’s representative come in front and presents
present their work? their findings.

Group I

Solve the following word problems. You must

decide if you should add or subtract to get the
answer.
1. One bitter, winter days in the Yukon, the
high temperature was -4 degrees Celsius.
The low temperature was -13 degrees
Celsius. What was the sum of the two
temperatures?
Answer: -17
2. When Steve woke up. His temperature
was 102F. Two hours later it was 9
higher. What was his temperature then?
Answer: 111ºF

Group II

Solve the following word problems. You must

decide if you should add or subtract to get the
answer.

1. Mrs. Bautista has a bank balance of -42

dollars at the start of the month. After she
deposits 6 dollars, what is the new
balance?
Answer: -36
2. A hike starts at an elevation 30 meters
below sea level and ends at a point 9500
meters and ends the starting points. How
high would you be at the end of the hike?
Answer: 9470

Group III

Solve the following word problems. You must

decide if you should add or subtract to get the
answer.
1. In the Sahara desert one day it was 136 F.
in the Gobi desert a temperature of -50F
was recorded. What is the difference of
this two temperature?
Answer: 186F
2. An elevator went up 15 floors, down 9
floors, up 11 floors, and down 19 floors.
Find the net change?
Answer: 1st floor.

Very Good! Thank you everyone for your

cooperation. Let us give ourselves a round of
applause. The student will clap their hands.

Abstraction
You all did great in our activity.
So now can you give the rules in adding with the - In adding integers with the same sign, add the
same sign? two numbers and copy the sign.
How about different sign? - In adding integers with different sign, subtract
the two numbers and copy the sign of the higher
numbers.
How about the rules in Subtracting integers?
-In subtracting integers get the additive inverse of
Application the subtrahend and proceed to rule no. 1 and rule
Since you already understand our lesson, let no. 2 in addition.
us have our final activity. We will measure your
creativity. Since you have already your respective
group, I will no longer group you. This is your
activity.
-You will make your own word problem where in
applies to your daily lives. 3 word problem Every group will make their own word problem
involving adding and subtracting integers. that relates to their daily lives. And present it to
the class.

D GENERALIZATION
1. How important integers in our life? For me, integers are important operation in our
daily life because it was being used by many people
everywhere in every time

IV EVALUATION

Perform the indicated operation

1. 12+-14 = 6. (-1) – (8) =

2. -1+5 = 7. -15 – 23 + 10 =
3. (-8) +(-5)+10 = 8. -29 – (-42) – 12=
4. (-9)- (-4) = 9. -39-23+11 =
5. (-10) + 8 – (-2)= 10. -7 +16 (-18)=

V ASSIGNMENT

Sum Words.

Find the value of every word.

A=-3,T=-2,R=-1,V=0, E=1, S=2, C= 3

1. CARE = 3. ARTS = 5. CARS =

2. TEAR = 4. STAR =
