Personal Experience Speech Sample Outline

General Goal: To narrate a personal experience.

Specific Goal: To tell the story of how I persevered to learn how to ride a (2-wheeler) bike.

Introduction: I had never learned how to ride a bike when I was a kid, so I decided to try my
best to learn last summer.

Body:

I. I was practicing and trying my best to learn how to balance while riding a bike for days.

a. I kept falling and getting bruised.

b. I was losing hope and starting to think that maybe at my age and size, it was not
possible for me to learn anymore.

II. My uncle saw me practicing in front of their house.

a. He told me to stop trying because I was too big to learn at my current state, and
that I didn’t need it since I already knew how to drive a car.

b. I was already losing hope before he said that, but after he did, I got fired up and
told him that if I learned, he would have to give me $20. I like proving people
wrong, especially when they belittle me and my ability to get something done.

Conclusion:

I. Instead of giving up after that, I practiced more - even though I was afraid of getting
more bruises, I still did my best.

II. After a few weeks of hard work and practice, at last, I learned!

III. Of course I wanted my $20, so I went to my uncle’s house - and since I wanted to
prove him wrong, I rode a bike to his house and I showed him who was boss.

IV. He gave in and told me that he would give me my prize when my birthday comes
which was 7 months away. He still owes me that money.
