Budget Goes To NHA:
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government unveiled its first annual budget in the
National Assembly. It was presented by State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar.
The session was chaired by Speaker AsadQaiser. The government set the budget amount
at Rs7,036 billion.
 Total outlay of the PSDP is Rs1.863 trillion.
The National Highway Authority is to get a share of Rs155.966 billion.
The Sukkur-Multan Motorway is to receive Rs19 billion.

Pakistan Railway:
is the national, state-owned railway company of Pakistan. Founded in 1861 and
headquartered in Lahore, it owns 4,800 miles (7,791 km) of track across Pakistan
from Torkham to Karachi and operates freight and passenger service. Pakistan
Railways was also known as the Pakistan Western Railway from 1947 to 1974.

Network:
The Pakistan Railways network is divided into main lines and branch lines. The Karachi-

International Railway Routes


India - Two rail links to India exist: the Thar Express from Jodhpur,
Rajasthan to Karachi and the Samjhauta Express from Delhi to Lahore.
Iran - Pakistan Railways is connected to the Islamic Republic of Iran
Railways at Zahedan, where a break-of-gauge exists between
the 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) Quetta–Taftan Railway Line and
the 1,435 mm (4 ft 8 1⁄2 in) Kerman–Zahedan line. The link was completed on 18 May
2007.

Area Control Centers :


The services in respective FIRs are given by Karachi and Lahore Area Control Centers (ACCs).

Water ways :

• Construction work on Port Qasim started in 1976. The
port is located 50 kms from city of Karachi. It is designed
to provide integrated port facilities to adjacent industrial
and commercial establishment and is administered by
Port Qasim Authority (PQA).

• Port Qasim is Pakistan's second busiest port, handling


about 35% of the nation's cargo (17 million tons per
annum).

GAWADAR DEEP SEA PORT:


• Gawadar is situated at about 290 nautical miles via sea
west of Karachi on Mekran Coast. As a full-fledged
deep-water port it will become a regional hub, an
alternate to the Gulf ports while serving as trans¬
shipment/transit port. The port is connected with the
airport road by a 5-km long road. Once complete, will
eventually handle dry cargo vessels of 100,000 DWT
and oil tankers of 200,000 DWT.
