1st iMAKE PROJECT REGIONAL ROBOTICS COMPETITION

I. Venue and Schedule

Lecture: September 4, 2019, 1:00 PM

Competition: September 5, 2019; 7:30 AM

II. Categories

There are two (2) categories in this competition: the SumoBot Challenge and Obstacle Avoider
MoBot Contest.

III. Submission of Entry Forms

Deadline for the submission/filing of entry forms is on August 23, 2019 at DOST-Caraga,
Caraga State University Campus, Ampayon, Butuan City or directly email it to
rstwcaraga2019@gmail.com. (Please see the official entry form attached in this document.)

IV. Qualified Participants

1. The Regional Robotics Competition is open to all secondary schools under the Department
of Education – Division Offices in the Caraga Region.

2. Contestants shall be officially nominated by the school principal and endorsed by the
participating school division.

3. Every school division can send one (1) team only composed of two (2) Senior High
School students and two (2) teachers/coaches from its secondary schools.
(Note: The same students and coaches will join for the two categories.)

4. All student contestants must be bonafide high school students officially enrolled for the
current school year 2019-2020.

5. The contestants are required to wear their school uniform while coaches are required to wear
formal attire.

V. Lecture

1. Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will conduct a lecture and discussion on
programming the Arduino Microcontroller, its installation, connection to USB port and serial port,
coding, etc.
2. This lecture provides preparedness to the participating teams in order to be ready for their
upcoming robotics competition.

3. As such, all participating teams must be present during the lecture and discussion conducted
by DOST’s speaker. Otherwise, the team will be disqualified from participating in the
competition.

VI. Competition Proper

1. Participating teams must register at the registration area at least 30 minutes before their
scheduled competition time. The contest will start at exactly 8:00 AM on September 5, 2019.
Late participants will be forfeited in the competition.

2. The SumoBot Kit to be used during the competition will be provided by the Department of
Science and Technology (DOST). The same kit will be used for the Obstacle Avoider MoBot.

3. MoBots will be programmed in Arduino Sketch for Sumo as the first category and Obstacle
Avoidance as the second. Each participating team must provide their own laptop for
programming Arduino microcontroller.

4. Each team will be given an opportunity to compete with another MoBots.


The order will be drawn by lots by the judges.

VII. Mechanics and Scoring

A. SumoBot Challenge

1. SumoBot Kit will be provided by DOST. No modification on the SumoBot Kit such as putting
heavy materials and sharp objects to the body. Thus, there will be no assembling of SumoBot.

2. Teams must do coding for SumoBot’s functionality. Allowable time to code is only 30 minutes
to all participating teams.

3. After 30 minutes, the teams must be ready to battle the opposing teams. Round Robin format
will be used in the competition.

4. Two (2) minutes will be given for the battle time. Only two teams will be in the battle arena.
The team will win if the enemy’s SumoBot is out of the arena.

5. Two (2) points will be given if the team won in each battle. Otherwise, no point will be given
to the losing team. In case of a tie after the battle time, the teams will receive one (1) point
each.

6. The greater number of points after battling all teams will be proclaimed as the champion. In
case of a tie in the rank, there will be a tiebreaker battle.

7. There will be three (3) Board of Judges that shall be constituted by the organizing DOST
Regional Office. The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final and unappealable.
B. Obstacle Avoider MoBot Contest

1. The SumoBot used in the first category will be the same MoBot that will be used for the
Obstacle Avoider MoBot Contest.

2. There are five (5) level of stages in the contest. Allowable time to code, adjust, and run your
MoBot is only twenty (20) minutes. The given time is consumable.

3. In twenty (20) minutes time, the highest stage and length reached by the Mobot will be
marked as the official score of the team. The Mobot with the longest length/highest stage
reached will be proclaimed as the champion.

4. In case of a tie, there will be a tiebreaker round.

5. There will be three (3) Board of Judges that shall be constituted by the organizing DOST
Regional office. The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final and unappealable.

VIII. Awards and Certificates

1. Awarding will be on September 5, 2019.


2. All contestants are requested to be there to receive their awards.
3. All contestants and coaches will receive Certificate of Participation and Certificate of
Appearance, while the winners will receive the following:

SumoBot Challenge:

1st Place: Medal + Certificate of Recognition + Cash Prize (P 5,000.00)


2nd Place: Medal + Certificate of Recognition + Cash Prize (P 4,000.00)
3rd Place: Medal + Certificate of Recognition + Cash Prize (P 3,000.00)

Obstacle Avoider MoBot Contest:

1st Place: Medal + Certificate of Recognition + Cash Prize (P 5,000.00)


2nd Place: Medal + Certificate of Recognition + Cash Prize (P 4,000.00)
3rd Place: Medal + Certificate of Recognition + Cash Prize (P 3,000.00)
