DESIGN EXPERIMENT
Title: PROPOSED TWO STOREY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING USING YAKAL WOOD
Objective:
Specific Objective(s):
The study aims:
 Integrate design principles from timber design, mechanics of deformable bodies
and theory of structure.
 Design a two storey timber house that will satisfy the National Structural Code of
the Philippines (NSCP) requirements.
 Practice of necessary modern tools in the design process such as MS excel
spread sheet, Microsoft office word and AutoCAD.
General Objectives:
 This project aims to design a two storey residential timber building that is made
up to mahogany for joints, floors and girder, for truss, for column and the beams.
.

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs): (Specify at least 3 ILOs)

 Wood is hard and fibrous substances which forms a major part of trunk and
branches of tree. It also be defines as natural polymeric material which practically
does not age.
 Wood has many advantages due to which it is preferred over many other
building materials. Its easily available and easy to transport and handle, has
thermal insulation, sound, absorption and electrical resistance as compared to
steel and concrete. It’s the ideal material to be used in sea water
Discussion:
Project Background:

This project design aims to propose structural design of a 2 (two) storey residential
timber building located at No.1134 Sta Rita Road, Olongapo City. The magnificent view
overlooking the gulf and location of the structure made the concept proposal of the
creation of the structure. They also consider the climate, the people and the ambiance
Of the environment.

Introduction:
• Wood is hard and fibrous substances which forms a major part of trunk and branches of tree. It
also be defines as natural polymeric material which practically does not age.
• Wood has many advantages due to which it is preferred over many other building materials. Its
easily available and easy to transport and handle, has thermal insulation, sound, absorption and
electrical resistance as compared to steel and concrete. It’s the ideal material to be used in sea
water

TIMBER DESIGN 2019
Project Scope and Limitations:

The study focuses only on the analysis as discussed in structural timber design after the
structure had been built. It also embarks upon the effectiveness of these timber design
and advantages if it’s economical to both location and the choices of materials. The
study would like to emphasize the correct computation in considering all the loading
made upon the building of the timber structure. The scope of the study is only for design
a timber house that will not primarily include political constraints as one of the choices in
design

Conclusion:

We conclude that yakal is a good choice in building a 2-storey residential timber

building. Yakal is used for high-grade construction, bridges and wharves, mine timber,
and other installations requiring high strength and durability that’s why yakal is a perfect
material in constructing a 2-storey building. in designing a 2-storey building we must
carefully consider all the requirements and specifications stated in national structural
code of the Philippines. Overall we must have a thorough understanding of the
limitations of the codes.

Recommendation:

Timber is the only 100% renewable building material. in this study we only focuses on
how yakal wood will react in making it as a material in building construction. We believe
timber has an infinite potential in construction world because it is the only material that
is renewable and it also has many advantages like saving costs and time. So we
recommend that we should make more studies regarding timber design by using
different kinds of woods and other processes in making a strong and reliable buildings.
