EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The design project submitted in this report was analysis and design checking of the
existing main office building and the new hall building of the Khomas Regional Council,
that has the need of constructing, renovate and extending their existing Windhoek West
Constituency office. CEPM was appointed to be the Structural/Civil Engineer for the
construction and alterations of the Constituency office. The trainee’s tasked to design of
steel purlins, steel trusses, concrete ring beam, concrete gutters and strip footing. The
works involved in this report were mainly focused on the proposed construction of a new
hall on the premises and on replacing the timber roof truss with a steel roof truss to
sustain the designed load after experienced defects to some of the members and failure at
some of the joints. The plan of the main office building is 15.8m x 19.8m and of the hall
building is 9.5m x 24.8m. The main office building is 3m tall and the new hall is 3.7 m tall.
To ensure building safety, visual site investigation and the study of the ground condition
was made by the trainee and by Mune Geotechnics and Geomatics. Additional strip footing
was done for the new added 110mm walls.
An executive summary, is a short paragraph or section of a document that summarizes the longer report
in such a way that readers can rapidly become acquainted with a large body of material without having
to read it all.
Summarise what you have done and provide the key outcomes and recommendations

CHAPTER 2: PROJECT INCEPTION AND CONCEPT
Divide the structure into individual structural elements and provide a briefly describe of each
one.
Describe how the individual structural elements are connected to form one functioning structural
unit.

CHAPTER 3: POSITION DRAWINGS
Remove all irrelevant architectural elements e.g. windows, door frames, etc.
Note 110mm walls are irrelevant elements that should be removed when producing position
drawings but still add to our dead load.
Produce position drawings showing the location of each structural element, whereby each
element is clearly labelled with a name and number in 2D.
