Dear Parent:

As you are aware, Tuesday’s election brought devasting results to our schools. As we have
communicated to you, much like your home finances, if we do not have the money then we
must cut. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of our work in this regard as you are a
partner with us in caring for our students and schools.

As part of the first steps, last night the board authorized the district to proceed with
implementing the cuts and reductions. This entails the loss of 10 aids, 5 bus drivers and others.
Over the course of the next few weeks, we will meet with these individuals and with staff
throughout our district. These will be very difficult meetings.

Everyone in the district is affected. We will be meeting with everyone throughout the district
because while we lose these individuals, it is important to note that their work does not go
away when they do. Instead, everyone in the district will be affected and we will be discussing
ways to support each other as we all take on more work as part of our day-to-day
responsibilities. I know that this will be a significant change, especially as we are already
stretched, but I am asking for everyone’s understanding as we work through these tough times.

We will also work on implementing the remainder of the cuts and will factor those into our
planning for the next school year. Those include…

In the meantime, our board is beginning to think about next steps. That includes a possible
November ballot issue. Although it is not a discussion that we want to have, it is a critical one as
we simply cannot continue unless we have either additional funds or further and devastating
cuts.

Thank you for your understanding as we work through these cuts and changes. I will continue
to keep you informed as we go along. As always, please reach out to your building principal or
me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Kirk Koennecke
Superintendent
