2011 Yigal Alon award winner – Dror Israel

The Yigal Alon Award for Exemplary Pioneering Activities committee has decided to honor the "Dror
Israel" movement with the award for the year 2011.

The committee has announced:

The "Dror Israel" movement was established in 2006, by graduates of the

"Noar Oved VeLomed" youth movement and has more than 1,000 young
adult members all over Israel. The movement's members live in
Kibbutzim, both urban and rural, and their main focus is on education.
"Dror Israel" is a Zionist and pioneer movement that acts towards
strengthening society and the belief in the human being. They educate
towards fulfillment of values such as equality, solidarity and social
responsibility.

"Dror Israel" works with all groups of Israeli society throughout the whole
country. Its members educate more than 200,000 children, teenagers and
young-adults in different frameworks – schools. Youth clubs, the NOAL youth movement and more. The
educational programs are held in major cities, development towns, non-Jewish villages, in the
movement's Kibbutzim and more.

The unique educational philosophy consists of diverse methods and both formal and in-formal
pedagogic tools. The activities are directed at all sectors of Israeli society – Jews, Olim and veterans,
Arabs, Bedouins, Circassian and Druze. The movement also runs programs with members of the IDF and
Police.

"Dror Israel" is inspired by the TNUAT HAAVODA, (labour movement) and as such, identifies with Yigal
Alon and his legacy as a Zionist, social and moral guide. The members accept Yigal Alon's saying – "If I
were asked what was the force that brought us here (To ERETZ YISRAEL) the answer would have been –
the strength of the dream. If I were asked thanks to what, the answer would have been thanks to the
desire of the past generations to stand up and fulfill the dream in day to day deeds, and to devote their
lives to it, as simple as that… the depth of one's involvement in the act determines the depth of the
meaning of this act in his eyes".

Thanks to the richness of the movement's activities, its values, the devotion of its members and their
commitment to education, the committee has decided to present the Alon award for 2011 to "Dror
Israel". The award presentation event will take place on March 17th, 18:30, at the Palmach House in Tel
Aviv.
