ABSTRACT

In recent years, there has been a substantial growth in the number of high rise structures.
Traditional slab-beam-column structure were generally consider for the construction of
residential, commercial and office building till recent years. A flat-slab building structure
has major advantages above conventional slab-beam-column structures because of the
free design of space, less construction time, and aesthetical appearance. The performance
of the flat slab structure is poor during earthquake because its Stiffness is less. Its
stiffness can be increase by providing a lateral load resisting system such as shear wall.
Shear wall has major role in design of Earthquake Resistant Structures, which decreases
the structure response when they are subjected to lateral loads.

In the present work, a 15 storied commercial building having flat slab system with and
without shear wall for irregular structure has been model and analysed. Irregularities such
as vertical irregularity and plan irregularity are considered. Comparative studies of these
structures are evaluated on the constraints like base shear, time period, storey
displacements and storey drift. The different location of shear wall is used to study the
effect of changing location. Nonlinear pushover analysis was carried out for the analysis
of structure using the software ETABS.

Keywords: Flat slab, Shear Wall, Irregularity, Non- liner pushover Analysis.
