DATA GATHERING INSTRUMENT

The study used survey questionnaires as the data gathering instrument. The instrument was chosen
since it is inexpensive and easy to administer. In addition, it assures confidentiality for the respondents
and minimizes biases. The questionnaire is composed 10 questions that will collect data from the
respondents to measure their Digital Literacy and the questionnaire will also ask descriptions about the
respondents such as sex, strand and economic status. The Good and Scates rating scale was utilized in
order to help determine the respondent’s ability through scaling.

The instrument underwent validation by two subject matter experts on Digital Literacy which were
both licensed professional teachers in Colegio San Agustin–Bacolod of the Senior High School
Department, namely Faye Norren Gula and Mark Mendoza. It was pretested at Colegio San Agustin -
Bacolod on Grade 10 Students which was not included in the study and will only serve for the purpose of
reliability. The result of the pretest was analyzed to determine whether it could yield the data needed in
the study and it showed a reliability coefficient of 0.91 which exceeded the value of 0.80 to be
considered as reliable.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

This study will focus on Senior High School Students of Colegio San Agustin–Bacolod where they will
be grouped according to sex, strands, and economical status since the researchers want to find out if
there is a difference in the utilization of digital technology among the students and their digital literacy
when they are grouped according to these three grouping variables. The population is accessible and
relevant to the researchers. The respondents will be determined through random sampling. The chosen
respondents will then be given a set of questionnaires to be answered. The data that will be gathered
through the questionnaires will then be used to determine the relationship that exists between the
utilization of digital technology among the respondents and their digital literacy.

Correlational research design will be utilized in this study since the aim of this close-ended paradigm
is to determine the relationship that exist between the utilization of digital technology among the
Senior high school students of Colegio San Agustin–Bacolod and their digital literacy. This will be used to
derive patterns, traits and behaviors of the said respondents and could give the attitudes and opinions
of the respondents about utilization and digital literacy.
