CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter shows the research design, population and sampling procedure,

data gathering procedure, and sources of data.

Research Design

This study aims to unde rstand the relationship between financial status and

academic achievements in which the researchers will use correlational quantitative

research design to establish a formal procedure in determining whether there is a

positive correlation, negative correlation, or zero correlation within the existing variable

of this study.

A correlational quantitative research design explores variables' correlations

without the researcher altering or modifying any of them. This design is appropriate to

use in order to distinguish the relationship of financial status in the academic

performance of the students in both private and public schools.

Population and Sampling Procedure

The participants in this study are the selected students in both public and private

schools within the area of Montalban, Rizal. The selected student from public school

would be from San Jose Litex National High School and selected students from private

school would be from Valley High Academy, Inc.

The sampling technique that the researchers used is stratified sampling.

Stratified sampling technique involves segmenting the population into subpopulations

that may differ significantly. It enables the researchers to draw more precise

conclusions by ensuring that each subgroup is adequately represented in the sample.

The researchers used this type of sampling technique since the existing variables

involves relevant characteristics of the respondents that will be beneficial in selecting

the participants in this study.

Data Gathering Procedure

This study aimed to determine the relationship between financial status and

academic performance of selected students of Montalban, Rizal. The researchers used

survey questionnaire to gather information needed for this study. As the health protocols

are still lifted, the researchers opted to gather information through online platforms.

Google Forms and Internet would be very relevant in gathering responses to the

participants. Responses would be gathered freely with valid consent and would only

include information needed for the research. All replies are absolutely be confidential

and safe.

Sources of Data

The researcher employed a survey test to collect information for the study and to

assess the relationship between financial status and academic achievement.

Using a Likert-type scale, the researcher created a single survey test with ten

items to determine the demographic profile of the respondents. Nine of the items were

non-researchable, and they were utilized to see if there was an existing correlation
between financial status and academic performance. One of them was a researchable

question that was used to collect recommendations from respondents.
