Closer Look at Using ActivInspire on a Promethean Board in an Elementary Classroom

Subject of Workshop: Prerequisite Knowledge:

The value of using ActivInspire on the  How to Open a Flipchart

Promethean board.  How to Save a Flipchart
 Basic Knowledge of Dock in ActivInspire
Using the Snipping Tool  Basic Computer Skills
Materials:

 Chromebooks or Desktop Computers

 Access to the ActivInspire Program
 Computer with Internet access connected to a Promethean board for workshop presenter
 ActivInspire Program
 “How to Use the Snipping Tool Presentation
Objective: Participants will be able to utilize the features of ActivInspire to create an
educational presentation with the snipping tool that will align with at least one learning
objective.
Content: This workshop will review the basic ActivInspire tools. In addition to discussing this
we will discuss how this specific tool can be used within the classroom to support student
learning objectives.

Participants will then learn about the snipping tool that is available in the ActivInspire dock
station. Teachers and administrators will learn how they can snip any type of multimedia tool
and embed it into a current flipchart. They will have opportunities to collaborate with other
professional staff in brainstorming different multimedia tools that can be embedded.
Participants will then be asked to create a flipchart presentation that they can use within their
classroom using the snipping tool. (Teachers will create a flipchart presentation based on their
current classroom while administrators will create a flipchart presentation based on a grade-
level of their choice.)
Workshop Outline:

1. Participants will be seated in a Chromebook lab. Each participant will be given their own
Chromebook. The presenter will be in the front of the classroom and will be using a computer
that is connected to a Promethean board.
2. First, the presenter will review the basic skills of the Promethean board. This will be in the
format of a whole group discussion with demonstrations on the presenter’s computer.
 How to Use Text in a flipchart presentation
 How to Use Color in a flipchart presentation
 Pasting Images into a flipchart presentation
3. The presenter will inform participants that today we are going to be learning about the snipping
tool that is in the dock of ActivInspire. This tool is located in the desktop tool that is in the
dock.
4. We will view the resource called ActivInspire- Camera Tool
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PVIKhMmgXg)
5. After the video, the presenter will go over the tools that were used such as the camera snipping
tool for the whole page and the area snapshot of the screen. Then, we will discuss the different
options that are given when the snapshot has been taken. Such as current page, new page,
clipboard.
6. After as a whole group we will discuss what this tool could be used for snipping. What types of
items should be snipped into presentations and what items should not be snipped into items.
7. Once the presenter has finished the presentation the participants will use their Chromebooks to
create a flipchart presentation with the snipping tool. They will be asked to have their
presentation contain multiple snipping elements that align to the objective of their choice. Each
participant will be given a copy of “How To Use the Snipping Tool” in their Google Drive.
8. Once everyone has finished we will share the different presentations that were made.
Assessment: Participants will be assessed on their incorporation of the snipping tool into their
ActivInspire presentation, educational value within the classroom and alignment with a
learning objective.

Anecdotal notes will be taken as participants create their presentations on their comfort level
of using the snipping tool.

presentations that were assessed at the end of the course. We will review the snipping tool and
how to get to the specific dock with that tool.
3. The presenter will inform participants that today we are going to be learning about the
document/media action tool that is located in the browser. I will explain then that participants
will use the drop-down menu and select the document/media action where “open document or
file” and “open website” will appear.
4. The presenter will then explain that participants will use the item that they snipped the day
before to include a website. Then, it will be explained to select the open website. Then,
participants will brainstorm an appropriate website to include such as BrainPop. Then, the
presenter will explain that participants will copy the URL and paste it into the box provided.
5. After as a whole group we will discuss that in order to use this effectively we need to enter
design mode. But if the presentation is in present mode the website will pop-up with a click of
the mouse.

Participants will then learn about how to incorporate magic ink in an ActivInspire flipchart
presentation. Teachers and administrators will learn how they can incorporate magic ink using
skills learned from the object browser. This course lesson will take place on their own.
Participants will complete this course individually then share their presentations in a Google
Drive Folder. Participants will then be asked to continue to use their flipchart presentation
from the previous lessons in order to create a flipchart that is aligned with an objective of their
choice. (Teachers will create a flipchart presentation based on their current classroom while
administrators will create a flipchart presentation based on a grade-level of their choice.)
Workshop Outline:

1. Participants will be shared notes about what we are going to be learning about. See Materials

 Computer with Internet access connected to a Promethean board for workshop presenter
 ActivInspire Program

Objective: Participants will be able to utilize the features of ActivInspire to create an

educational presentation with the locking tool that will align with at least one learning
objective.
Content: We will be building on previous days in this course. We will discuss the previous
course days and how today they are going to learn about locking the different objects that they
have embedded into this flipchart presentation that they have been adding to during the four
days in the course.

Participants will then learn about the locking tool that is available in the ActivInspire dock
station. Teachers and administrators will learn how they can lock any type of embedded shape,
image or video. Therefore, it will not move when clicked on. They will have opportunities to
collaborate with other professional staff in brainstorming different times that this tool could be
used. Participants will then be asked to lock multiple objects in their flipchart presentation that
they have created in this course.

2. First, the presenter will review the previous courses learning and present some of the
presentations that were assessed at the end of the course. We will review the different tools that
have been accessed and used during the course.
3. The presenter will inform participants that today we are going to be learning about the locking
tool that is located in the browser. The presenter will explain that they need to select an object
and choose the menu icon in the marquee. Then, click the lock button. The object should not be
able to move in the place.
4. The presenter will then explain that participants will use an item that they embedded
throughout the week in order to lock the object. Then, the presenter will explain that by
dragging the select tool over all objects on a slide and right-clicking will allow for all objects to
become locked.
5. Once the presenter has finished the presentation the participants will use their Chromebooks to
lock objects in their flipchart presentations. They will be asked to have their presentation
contain multiple locked objects that align to the objective of their choice.
6. Once everyone has finished we will share the different presentations that were made.
Assessment: Participants will be assessed on their incorporation of locking objects in their
ActivInspire presentation, educational value within the classroom and alignment with a
learning objective.
