The District
The county that I am choosing to use for my DTTP is Montgomery County Public
Maryland. Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is the largest school system in Maryland
and fourteenth largest in the United States. Currently, there are 161,936 students and 23,347
employees within the district where 86 percent of teachers have a Master’s degree. The county
currently employs 13,094 teachers within its 205 schools. Where there are 133 elementary
schools, 40 middle schools, 25 high schools, 1 career and technology center, 5 special schools
and 1 alternative education program. In the county, it shows off a very diverse county since there
are seven different races that are present such as Caucasian, Hispanic, African American, Asian,
Multiple technologies are used in Montgomery County Public Schools. At all schools
they are able to use Promethean Boards, desktop computers, printers, and audio recording
equipment. In the recent years, Montgomery County Public Schools has begun to roll out
Chromebooks to different schools. Students are able to use a one on one device in the classroom
that connects to the wireless server available in each county school. High Schools and Middle
schools currently have the most usage of Chromebooks while Elementary schools’ upper grades
have full access while primary grades have minimal access to Chromebooks.

The Problems
Based on my time in the county I have noticed some areas that I believe are challenges in
the area of technology. First, the county does not provide enough technology training.
Sometimes the county will give us new software to use but then will not give us training but
instead just have teachers figure it out on their own. Another challenge that I believe is
significant is lack of time to actually have trainings for technology. I have been to many trainings
about different technologies such as a Promethean board training. This training was only about
an hour of time and had a lot of content to cover. Therefore, the professor was rushing through
the content. Lastly, another challenge is rushed training. Last year, the county gave my school
iPads to use to administer an assessment. We were given the iPads during the school day and got
given a packet how to set it up. I felt as though it was rushed and I was not given the best
training on how to use the iPad. Therefore, based on what I have seen in the county these are the

technology training opportunities. They feel as though they are given a new technology tool or
software to use; however, they are not given the training needed in order to effectively utilize the
2. Lack of In-House Training – Some teachers described how there is a lack of training “in
house.” They need to seek out classes offered by county administrative staff, and some of these
classes are either too far away or would require them to miss school.
3. Lack of Time – Many teachers stated how they are quite overwhelmed and busy with the
many other tasks that they need to do during the year. Thus, even if they wanted to become more

After determining the technology usage in the classroom, the twenty-five Montgomery
County Public Schools teachers were asked about training that takes place at their school. Based
on Figure 2, Most teachers had mixed feelings about attending after school trainings. Teachers
were also asked whether or not they received enough training in Figure 3. Based on the results, it

6. Using Google Classroom for Sharing with Students and Submitting Work
There are multiples goals of this district technology training program. Through the
administration of public surveys, a wide variety of technology issues and needs were
identified. It was found that many teachers need training on specific technologies that they
need to use in the classroom. According to the survey, it seems as though there is not enough
time or staff to give proper trainings on these skills that are needed.
2. Improve teachers’ ability to effectively integrate these technologies into the classroom
3. Provide strategies to help teachers’ students develop skills to assist in their learning.
When these goals are met the outcomes that are going to be seen throughout the classroom
will be beneficial to students as well as teachers. As a result of these courses all who
Classroom and Google Drive more effectively. Along with just utilizing these different
technologies another outcome would be that all participants be able to effectively use the
strategies in order to create more interactive lessons and presentations in order to assist in
student learning. Overall, the amount of time spent in these trainings will promote student
Standards
These courses will align with the Montgomery County Public Schools strategic
technology plan. This plans overarching goal is that “all learners will participate in
technology enriched learning communities that inspire intellectual curiosity and prepare them
with the knowledge and skills to excel in college and chosen careers in an evolving digital
age” (MCPS, 2014). This standard is meant for teachers to teach their students different
lessons in order to prepare them for their future which is extremely important. Different things
that they are taught could be researching using a Chromebook or creating an excel document
to chart numbers. It allows for teachers to get their basic needs met on how to manipulate
different programs that are being used in today’s technological age. In the plan it is also stated
that teachers use “technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity,
and innovation in face-to-face and virtual environments” (MCPS, 2014). While they also
“design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating
contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context” (MCPS, 2014).
My DTTP will align with the International Society for Technology in Education
Standards for Educators. These specific standards were meant to promote collaboration,
challenge traditional teaching practices, and prepare students for independent learning (ISTE,
2018). There are multiple standards for educators but this DTTP only fits under four of the
different standards under the Designer and Facilitator standards. This DTTP will align with
the ISTE standards 5a, 5b and 5c. Which states that teachers “use technology to create, adapt
and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and learner differences”
(ISTE, 2018). “Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and
use digital tools and resources” (ISTE, 2018). Explore and apply instruction design principles
MCPS DTTP 10
to create innovative digital learning environments that engage and support learning (ISTE,
2018). These are the standards that fit under the designer standards. Finally, the facilitator
standards are as follows that fit into my DTTP which are standards 6b and 6d. These
standards state they “manage the use of technology and student learning strategies in digital
platforms, virtual environments, hands-on makerspaces or in the field and model and nurture
2018).

Sample Materials
In the course, there are materials such as ‘how to’ sheets that will be shared with participants for
the course in Google Drive. Below are the materials that will be shared with participants on day
Field Test
assess effectiveness and viability. In order to test this workshop, I will gather a group of people
from my school who believe that they are proficient when it comes to using the Promethean
board tools that are available to them. I will be able to identify these participants through the pre-
field test survey. As stated before, the field test will be able to give me information on the
As soon as I gather these sample participants, I will implement only a section of this
workshop. I will pick one specific day of the course such as the magic ink tool course. I will
implement an abbreviated version of this section of the course. The abbreviated version would
consist of the presenter explaining the purpose of the workshop, modeling how to use the magic
ink tool, and providing participants with the guides that are discussed in the workshops.
After the abbreviated course I will ask my sample participants’ feedback on how they feel
as though my modeling section of the workshop was sufficient instruction on how to use this
specific tool. I will then ask my sample participants whether or not they feel as though they could
use what was thought to use the tool effectively to create their own presentation. Since most of
the time participants would learn the most important parts of the course during this section this
will allow me to see if this modeling was enough teaching and my real participants would be
able to use my modeling effectively. If my sample participants do not feel ready to use the tool,
While my sample participants are trying-out the course, I will have them use the guides
that are created. I will ask my sample participants whether or not they feel as though these guides

are user friendly, provide sufficient detail and are clear on the tool of how to use it. Depending
on their responses I will either have to keep the guide or modify the material.
Based upon this field test, I will be able to assess the overall effectiveness and viability of
the course prior to the actual implementation of the workshop. It will allow me to modify my
instruction and materials that I plan to use. Therefore, by having this field test I will be able to
Revisions
Based on the field test that I will be giving I will be making revisions based on my
sample participants feedback. If my sample participants do not feel as though the modeling
component of my lesson gives sufficient overview of how to use the tools for the Promethean
board then I will be revising this component along with the materials that they are going to be
using. I will make my modeling more explicit and will increase the time spent on the direct
modeling about how to use that specific tool. Another section that my sample participants are
going to be using the how to guides for each specific tool. For this specific course preview, they
will be able to determine whether or not the guide was user friendly, provided sufficient detail
and are clear on the tool of how to use it. Based on their specific feedback I am given I will
revise these materials. For example, I can add more details to the specific material pages.

Evaluations
Montgomery County Public Schools does not give an evaluation model that was effective
for this particular course. Therefore, this workshop will be evaluated using the Kirkpatrick Four-
Level Training Evaluation Model. Kirkpatrick’s four levels to evaluate a training course starts
with reaction. The reaction level evaluates the course instructor, materials used, presentations
and the venue. Next, the participant will evaluate the learning that took place since the next
evaluation step is learning. This step will measure the extent of the participants learning against
the different training objectives. At the third level of the Kirkpatrick Four-Level Training
Evaluation Model is behavior. This section of the evaluation model is an evaluation that will be
conducted in order to determine if or if not, the participants apply what they have learned in the
course that they attended. The last tier of this evaluation model is the results. The presenter will
be evaluating the impact that the training hard. Looking into this model as a way to evaluate this
course is very beneficial because it breaks down the steps into four easy steps and allows the
participants to identify whether or not the training was able to educate them or whether the
Summative Evaluation
will also be given in order to determine the overall success of the workshop. The way that I am
planning on evaluating the workshop is to conduct a post-workshop survey. This survey will be
administered to all participants on the last day of the workshop. They will be able to explain their
overall satisfaction with this five-day workshop and also be able to reflect on their own learning.
This evaluation will be able to provide feedback about whether the participants learned about the
specific tool, will these tools be of educational value and provide specific feedback on the
After the courses are completed the presenter will also be asking for the participants to
provide samples of presentations that they have created following the course. Therefore,
collecting these work samples will allow the presenter to evaluate whether participants are taking
what was learned in the five-day course and applying it within their own instruction. Based on
the evaluations provided the presenter will be able to assess the value of this workshop.

Follow Up
Following the workshop, the workshop presenter will follow-up with the participants that
attended the workshop. This follow up will take place online using an online web tool such as
Survey Monkey. The survey will aid in identifying the participants application of their learning,
assessment tools used had the participants sharing samples of their presentations. The survey will
also be used in order to provide support to participants. The presenter will provide support and
answer questions that participants may have regarding the tools from the course in order to
support learning of the participants. As a result, participants that attended the workshop will meet
the goals associated with this technology plan which are improving participants knowledge of
different technologies that can be utilized within the classroom, improving participants ability
to effectively integrate these technologies into the classroom for educational purposes and
providing strategies to help participants students develop skills to assist in their learning.
