Pop Up Timer

The working of the Pop-Up Turkey Timer (Thermometer) is based on Charle’s law. Charles Law
states that when volume increases, pressure also increases . The same law applies to the Pop-Up
Turkey Timer. The thermometer (or timer) is placed inside the turkey. As the temperature
increases and the turkey cooks, the gas inside the thermometer also expands. As soon as the
timer pops, it indicates that the turkey has been cooked.

Popping A Balloon
When you pop a balloon, you are reducing the amount of air trapped inside of the container,
thus, you increase the pressure on the on the balloon. When you squeeze the balloon, you
increase the pressure, which decreases the volume. The balloon pop to release the pressure
you exerted on it. The same happens when you overfill a balloon, putting too much pressure
proportional to the volume the container can handle, will also pop.

Aerosol Cans
The label on the aerosol can says “Do not leave on stove or expose to heat.” The warning label
points out that the can could explode under such conditions. The label also says “Do not
puncture this can”. Something is under pressure inside the can and cutting it could lead to a
rapid release of pressure, creating a dangerous situation. It applies to Boyle’s law because
heating the gas increases the molecular motion of the kicking molecules, increasing the pressure.
