Career to date
He is the managing partner of Pham & Associates which he founded in 1991 (formerly Pham
Tran & Associates)
From 1985 to 1988, he was an official at the Vietnam National Office of Industrial Property
(now the Vietnam National Office of Intellectual Property).
Recent transactions
He has successfully conducted and directly participated in the handling of many complicated
cases of counterfeit goods and patent and trademark infringements in Vietnam such as X-
Men vs X-Men character, the Honda vs local motorcycle manufacturers, Infringement of
VIFON’s trade name, Viet Land Advertising Co Ltd vs Viet Land Tourist – Housing JSC,
Perfetti Van Melle S.p.A vs Nhat My Confectionery JSC and Interbrand Group (IG) vs local
company case.
His successful appeal cases relating to trademark prosecution include GOOD ENERGIES,
SAVING YOUR INSPIRATION, GREEN PLUS & Logo, LIQUINOX, Number 1 Chino & Logo,
FIDESTOR, SPORTIR LA, VIP INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Memberships
Mr Pham is a member of the Vietnamese Lawyers Association, INTA, AIPLA, ECTA, IBA,
FICPI, LES and LAWASIA. He is also an independent member of AIPPI and an individual
member of APAA. He annually reports on IP law development in Vietnam to update the
Practitioner’s Guide to the Madrid Agreement and Madrid Protocol which is available to INTA
members.
He is now Vice-President of the Vietnamese Anti-Counterfeit Goods Association and the Ho
Chi Minh City Intellectual Property Association.

He is the author and co-author of many articles published in the World IP Contacts
Handbooks, Managing Intellectual Property, Asia IP, MIP Trademark Yearbooks, Asia Law &
Practice, MIP IP Strategy Yearbooks etc.

Additional information
Mr Pham has been periodically invited to give lectures on IP rights at the University for
Science, Social and Humanity and the Judiciary Institute in Hanoi and on comparative laws
at the Law University and the Economic University of Ho Chi Minh City. He has also spoke at
a number of international and regional seminars on IP rights in Vietnam and abroad.
He was an active member of the working group to review IP legislation in Vietnam and to
draft the Vietnamese IP Law 2005 and the Amended IP Law 2009.
Mr. Pham has been selected as one of the 100 Outstanding Businessmen (including lawyers
of law firms) in Vietnam in year 2010 by Viet Trademark Journal.
