2. Explain the phrase Scientia Potencia Est (Knowledge is Power) in the context
of Science, Technology, and Society. Provide examples to support your answer.

“True power comes from knowledge.” This phrase really makes sense in
STS concept. ​Knowledgeable people has more power to foresee the future
outcome and can actually respond in a way that brings them the desired
outcome. Knowledge helps people in formulating solutions even to a big
problems to be encountered.

In STS we have these questions; “How is scientific knowledge and

practice affected by economic, political, religious, or philosophical currents in a
given time and place? How do societies and governments allocate resources for
scientific research and science-based policies?” As a society that is full of people
who are knowledgeable, that certain problems can be solved with the best
solutions.

For instance, the project of Mayor Isko Moreno “Green Project” in Manila.
Filipinos are actually questioning, “Is it possible?” Actually, I can say yes, it is.
Only if people that are part of that project is fully equipped in achieving it.
Because projects require thorough study before it takes the long process of
achieving its goal.

3. What do you think is the role of Science and Technology in achieving San
Beda University’s theme for this Academic Year 2019-2020: Pursuit of Peace in
Nation Building? (Tip: Define first what is peace and how is it achieved at the
different levels of society-family to global level.)
