Activity 1: OVERVIEW OF STS

Please answer the following after understanding the video.

1. What is the importance of science and technology in our society?

The importance of how science and technology contribute to society is the discovery of

new knowledge, followed by the application of that knowledge to improve human life and

address societal problems. Science and technology are extremely important in modern

civilization. Science enables us to get a greater understanding of the world we live in and the

world that surrounds us, whereas technology raises our standard of life and offers up new

avenues for research and communication that we can fully use.

2. How does it change our modern community?

Science and technology do, in fact, play important roles in everyday life. They make

tough and complex jobs easier and allow individuals to do more with less effort and time.

Technology has made farming simpler, city construction more viable, and travel easier, among

other things, effectively connecting all countries on the planet, contributing to globalization, and

easing the process for economies to flourish and businesses to conduct business.

3. Why is it important for people to learn academically STS and understand in solving the issue of a

problem?

It is very important to learn STS academically and understand it when solving a problem

because it gives us more ideas on how to develop the advancements and create or improve

more objects to make our lives easier and faster in any field. In learning STS, we can solve

complex problems that our society is facing currently, in the future, and even in the past that

have not been solved or need a solution.

4. Why STS is relevant in your degree program?

STS is relevant in our degree program because it helps us teach our students in an

engaging and creative way. This helps us improve our teaching strategies and methods to

further instill the lesson or topic in our students, especially since they have a short attention

span. We can teach students with various technological tools and manipulate them, and we can

also let the students engage with us.
