Writing – Formal letter – Book, page 17/4

Dear Mr. Director!

I am delighted to have the chance to finally write to you. As you may already know from our
conversations on the phone, I am studying tourism and hotel management and as my practice
course, I need to work in a hotel during the summer holiday. I am sure that working at such a
great hotel will improve my studies and of course, add a lot to my experiences.
As we have discussed, I am going to work in the hotel as a waiter. This will hopefully not just
add to my university studies, but I am sure that such work will definitely be able to help me
learn much about how life works. I heard that your hotel is welcoming many tourists, and not
just. I also heard that the Prince of England has been in this hotel once. I am looking forward
to be able to see what does working in such a popular hotel hide.
I have never worked in a hotel, so I apologize as I have some questions about the work. First
of all, I would ask about the shift. It is all right by my side if I have to work in the middle of
the dark night as much as it is if I need to be there in the morning. I only ask for the exact
timetable if possible, please, to have the chance to schedule my remaining university
programmes like they would not step in the way of my job.
Thank you very much, Sir, I am sure it will be a pleasure to work in your hotel!
I look forward to your prompt reply,
John Smith.
