On my second day, I was already helping with washing the dishes since
there were too many customers. I gradually lose my nervousness and I am
starting to have conversations with my co-workers. We are also allowed to
have a rest when there are no customers around.
It was July 16 when I was asked to move to the other branch that is located
at Gulod Labac, Batangas City. It was the third day of my On-the-Job
Training. This time, I am the one who is in-charge of billing-out. When the
guests ask their bills, I will go to the counter and get the bill. I will give it to
them and get the fee and I will go back again to the counter. If there is a
change then I will go back again to give it to them. Then, I will just wait for
them to go before I start clearing their tables just like what I did on my first
day. I will refill the sauces and tissues as usual.
Those are the things that I repeatedly did in seven executive days. There
are times that it becomes very tiring because there are too many guests but
the other waiters guide me well and assist me on what I need to do so it
becomes easier. Also, I easily adapt some of the tasks because of what I
had learned in school that I can apply as a restaurant worker.
I've been on an On-the-Job-Training course for about seven days now, and
one of the hardest issues to face is how I will prove myself, that I am really
doing my job, not only to my manager but also to my workmates. I’ve
learned a lot of things in just 84 hours of on-the-job training but I’ve noticed
that there are still other things that I have to improve. I was able to learn
how to accept both minor and major errors. I gained experience dealing
with the real world and communicating with various people. I didn't think I
could do well on my first day as a new worker, but as time went on, I can
now see that my self-confidence and self-esteem improve. Additionally, I
realized how crucial time management was. I am aware that I will
sometimes make mistakes and draw flak. Nevertheless, I see it as a
challenge to get better and advance rather than regress.
