My Narrative Report

My On-the-Job training in “Wanam sa Bukid” Restaurant located at

Balagtas, Batangas City started on July 14, 7:30 am. Since it was my first
day, I felt uncomfortable, but I knew that I would get through it day by day.
The first task given to me is to clear the tables that the customers used.
Also, beverages should be filled when needed such as soy sauce and I
also refill the tissues as well. I discovered that working is difficult, especially
in our line of business where you must interact with others. To make a
good impression on the visitors, we must be kind to them. I must adapt to
the situation because this is the first time, we have conducted on-the-job
training. We have our free meal three times a day if we are on straight duty
and if not, then two times a day only. My time of work ended exactly 8:00
pm.

On my second day, I was already helping with washing the dishes since
there were too many customers. I gradually lose my nervousness and I am
starting to have conversations with my co-workers. We are also allowed to
have a rest when there are no customers around.

It was July 16 when I was asked to move to the other branch that is located
at Gulod Labac, Batangas City. It was the third day of my On-the-Job
Training. This time, I am the one who is in-charge of billing-out. When the
guests ask their bills, I will go to the counter and get the bill. I will give it to
them and get the fee and I will go back again to the counter. If there is a
change then I will go back again to give it to them. Then, I will just wait for
them to go before I start clearing their tables just like what I did on my first
day. I will refill the sauces and tissues as usual.

Those are the things that I repeatedly did in seven executive days. There
are times that it becomes very tiring because there are too many guests but
the other waiters guide me well and assist me on what I need to do so it
becomes easier. Also, I easily adapt some of the tasks because of what I
had learned in school that I can apply as a restaurant worker.

I've been on an On-the-Job-Training course for about seven days now, and
one of the hardest issues to face is how I will prove myself, that I am really
doing my job, not only to my manager but also to my workmates. I’ve
learned a lot of things in just 84 hours of on-the-job training but I’ve noticed
that there are still other things that I have to improve. I was able to learn
how to accept both minor and major errors. I gained experience dealing
with the real world and communicating with various people. I didn't think I
could do well on my first day as a new worker, but as time went on, I can
now see that my self-confidence and self-esteem improve. Additionally, I
realized how crucial time management was. I am aware that I will
sometimes make mistakes and draw flak. Nevertheless, I see it as a
challenge to get better and advance rather than regress.

Being a member of this restaurant makes me happy and pleased. I

might certainly say that I learned a lot here. From the moment I set foot in
this place, I knew I would face various problems as new member of this
company, but I also knew I would learn new things from the possible work
that I would be doing in the company. I learn new things. I am learning new
skills. I can say that my own experience here at Wanam has prepared me
not just for the actual world of finding work, but also for life after graduation.

So far, my entire OJT experience was a fantastic memory to cherish.

Throughout my working days, I realize that the most crucial aspect is my
attitude toward other people. I also require knowledge and skills in
understanding the scenario or task that has been assigned to me. I must
learn from my errors since they can help me become a better person.
Nothing beats experience as a teacher when it comes to imparting
knowledge. It may be difficult at first, but if we learn to respect and enjoy
what we're doing, it becomes easier at the end of the day. I became a keen
observer and listener to the people I worked with.

I learnt to be prompt, to be courteous, especially to those in

higher positions, to socialize and establish harmonious relationships
with coworkers, to endure and be patient, to be cautious in all that I
do, to be modest and constantly eager to learn, and I am willing to
learn more.
