LEARNING BEYOND CLASSROOM

Many people think that learning is broadly acquisition of any information or knowledge and
applying it into daily life. However, it should be realized that this definition is quite constricted.
In my opinion, learning is firstly something that happens consciously or unconsciously in all our
lives. Sometimes, we acquire a piece of new information through experience, teaching or study,
or sometimes, we get an idea that we haven’t thought about it incidentally. In both processes, I
believe that learning changes people’s perception about their lives or especially a specific subject
even if just a smidgen. Furthermore, this acquisiton mostly leads to improve someone’s ability or
skill that he/she has already gained.

In my perspective, learning is one of the major parts of foreign language education. As a

prospective teacher and also as a learner, I think that an instructor cannot teach a new language
properly unless fully understand and learn that language. Besides, teaching a new language
requires different techniques, which means that an instructor firstly needs to think beyond
standard teaching methods and be creative. While learning a language, every student uses
different methods, and what teachers should do in this process is to be a facilitator to find their
methods. Except for these, learning a new language entails putting and applying it into every area
of a student’s life. That’s why it is so crucial that learning shouldn’t be limited to what they learn
at school.

First of all, reinforcing what students have learned with diverse activities out of the classroom has
positive outcomes for them. The more they are engaged in out-of- school activities, the more
efficient the learning process becomes. Therefore, especially in foreign language education,
extracurricular activities such as arranging afterschool speaking clubs, watching movies, or some
school tours are significant in students’ development. At the same time, student’s participation in
these kinds of activities has a great effect on learning. As long as school activities are properly
adjusted with extracurricular activities, learning will be much easier, which means teachers may
be a strong bridge between students and their learning activities. Consequently, I think that
successful learning comes from this relationship in education.
