2020-21 Skoll Scholarship Essay Questions

Please note that only candidates from MBA application stages 1-3 are eligible to apply for the Scholarship;
therefore, responses to these essay questions must be completed and uploaded by 10 January 2020.
Candidates who are accepted onto the MBA will be asked to also complete a short logistics and reference
form for the Skoll Scholarship, which will be sent to candidates after application stage 3 is complete.
Candidates who fail to submit both their essays and online Scholarship application by the respective
deadlines will not be considered for the Skoll Scholarship.

1. The Skoll Scholarship is meant to support entrepreneurs who have spent preferably
at least 3 years driving change through entrepreneurial approaches.
For example, they could have:
 Started or grown a social venture;
 OR led the expansion of a social impact initiative within an organisation;
 OR been tackling a specific social/environmental issue, through a core thread that
unites his/her work.

Respond to the following in your answer:

 Indicate the category above that best suits you;


 Describe the work you have done and the outcomes/impact you have created as a
result of your work;
 And outline your future goals and how the Scholarship will help you achieve them.

2. How have you shown commitment to understanding the problem you are trying to
solve (‘apprenticing with the problem’)? What have you done to learn from others
working in the same sector/geography/demographic group? How have you built upon
their work?

3. Explain if or how your financial needs require this Scholarship in order for you to
pursue the MBA. If you are not selected for this Scholarship, what will you do next
year?
