Name of Project: REHABILITATION OF WATER SYSTEM SUPPLY

Location: DOLORES, EASTERN SAMAR

PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS

INTRODUCTION

This specification provides the basis for the methods of construction and quality of materials
required for the construction of the Rehabilitation of Water System Supply of Dolores, Eastern
Samar, and shall be used in conjunction with all the documents and standards referenced
hereafter.

SCOPE

CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for the construction of the Rehabilitation of Water System
Supply Project within the scope of all Items of Work as stated in the approved Program of
Works (POW).

CONTRACTOR shall likewise be responsible for the provision of all the materials and
consumables necessary for the execution of works to complete the project in accordance with
the approved plans and project documents.

All works shall meet the requirements specified in applicable Standards and Codes. Any
deviation to the specification shall be submitted in writing to the OWNER for approval.

A. TEMPORARY FACILITIES WORKS

A.1 The temporary facilities works shall be established to store materials and
consumables necessary for the execution of works.

A.2 It shall be located proximate to the project site and accessible by all workers and
vehicles for loading and off-loading of materials to and from the site.

A.3 It shall be constructed so as to protect the materials and equipment from dirt and
deterioration prior the installation to its final location.

B. SITE PREPARATION WORKS

B.1 The project site shall be handed over by the Local Government Units of Dolores to
the Contractor in its present condition to start the Works of the Project.
B.2 The site shall be cleaned of all vegetation and stumps until the natural ground level
will be visible. No general earth moving activities are foreseen.

B.3 All waste materials and soils shall be disposed to an approved location.

C. EXCAVATION AND BACKFILL

C.1 All excavation and backfill shall be executed in accordance with the grade and
elevations as indicated in the drawings.

C.2 Bottom of excavation for the structural concrete where indicated on construction
drawings shall be compacted up to 95% of the modified maximum dry density as per
ASTM D 1557.

D. PLAIN AND REINFORCED CONCRETE

D.1 Forms shall be constructed from sound material of sufficient strength, properly
braced, strutted and shored to ensure rigidity throughout the placing and compacting of
the concrete without visible deflection. All formworks shall be water tight to prevent grout
loss.

D.2 Concrete, concrete reinforcing steel and concrete accessories shall be furnished
and installed in accordance with ACI 301 and this specification.

D.3 Concrete shall be normal weight concrete. Concrete shall have low permeability,
high strength, and the ability to obstruct sulfate and chloride penetration into the
concrete by diffusion, absorption, or hydraulic pressure.

D.4 All concrete shall be Type I Class “A” mixture unless otherwise noted, shall use
Portland Cement and shall conform to ASTM C 150 attaining its maximum strength of at
least 28 MPA after 28 days.

D.5 All reinforcement shall be deformed billet steel conforming to ASTM A 615/A 615M,
Grade 60, with a specified yield strength of 414 MPa.

D.6 Reinforcement shall be accurately placed in accordance with the placement


drawings and shall be adequately secured and held in position. Tie wire ends shall be
bent in a way that they do not protrude into the concrete cover zone.

D.7 Cement mixtures shall comprise of fresh sand, graded coarse aggregates and water
shall be free from impurities, oil, salts, alkali, organic matter and other potentially
deleterious substances in accordance with AASHTO T 26.

D.8 All concrete shall be consolidated by vibration, spading, or rodding so that the
concrete is worked around the reinforcement and embedded items. This concrete shall
be worked into corners of the forms to eliminate any air and stone pockets which may
cause honeycombing, pitting, or planes of weakness
E. STRUCTURAL STEEL

E.1 All structural steel work shall be in accordance with AISC Specification for the
Design, Fabrication and Erection of Structural steel for buildings.

E.2 Connections shall be as shown in the drawings and shall be develop the full capacity
of the members. All structural steel shapes and plates shall conform to ASTM A-36.

E.3 Note shall be made on Plans and on the shop drawings of those joints or groups of
joints in which it is especially important for the welding sequence and technique of
welding to be controlled carefully, to minimize welding under restraint, and to avoid
undue distortion.

E. 4 Steel work prior to painting and after inspection and approval shall be cleaned of
loose mill scale, loose rust, weld slag or flux deposit, dirt and other foreign materials.

F. HARDWARE

F.1 Materials and parts necessary to complete each item through such work which is not
shown or specified shall be included, such as miscellaneous bolts, anchor, supports,
braces connections etc. Anchor bolts shall conform to ASTM A-141.

F.2The contractor shall provide and fit in place all hardware herein specifically
mentioned necessary to leave the work complete. All such hardware should be any,
shall conform in every aspect to the balance of the hardware herein specified.

F.3 The contractor shall place his order for all hardware early in order to avoid delay in
the job. No substitution of hardware shall be allowed due to negligence of contractor on
this matter.

F.4 All modifications in hardware required by reason of construction indicated, shall be


made to provide specific operative functional requirements.

F.5 Schedule of all hardware to be purchased by the Contractor shall be submitted first
to the Supervising Engineer for approval before ordering them.

F.6 All hardware shall be brought to the site in original package. Samples shall
accompany schedules.

G. PIPINGS

G.1 Piping materials shall be in accordance with the applicable Piping Material
Specification(s) specified for the piping line as indicated on the drawings.

G.2 Piping drawings are intended to convey piping line configurations in their final
installed condition. They are not intended for fabrication as the line shall be reckoned
from the existing tie-in points, lines and structures. Lines deviated from the plan shall
reflect in the ‘As-Built’ Drawing for purposes of identifying its new line location.

G.3 Material used in the fabrication of piping and piping components shall be new, clean
and free from rust, pits and obvious defects.

G.4 Structural grade steel is prohibited from being used in any piping system except for
structural support.

G.5 Material used in the piping systems shall comply with ASTM standards.
G.6 Piping shall not be buried, concealed or insulated until it has been inspected, tested
and approved.

G.7 All pipings10 cm and larger shall be welded or flanged while smaller sizes shall be
screwed

H. STATIC EQUIPMENT

H.1 INTERMEDIATE SCREENING MODULE

Pressurized Stainless steel type of water storage tank rated up to 40 psi. Vertical type
with a capacity of 220 gal. Built with AISI Stainless Steel Grade 304. Manufactured by
BESTANK or equivalent.

Piping drawings are intended to convey piping line configurations in their final
installed condition. They are not intended for fabrication as the line shall be reckoned
from the existing tie-in points, lines and structures. Lines deviated from the plan shall
reflect in the ‘As-Built’ Drawing for purposes of identifying its new line location.

H.2 FILTRATION MODULE STAGE 1, STAGE 2 & STAGE 3

Pressurized Stainless steel type of water storage tank rated up to 40 psi. Vertical type
with a capacity of 220 gal. Built with AISI Stainless Steel Grade 304. Manufactured by
BESTANK or equivalent.

The tank shall be provided with cover, drain pipes, distribution pipe outlet, overflow pipes
and air vent.

H.3 CHLORINATION DOSING MODULE

Pressurized Stainless steel type of water storage tank rated up to 40 psi. Vertical type
with a capacity of 220 gal. Built with AISI Stainless Steel Grade 304. Manufactured by
BESTANK or equivalent.

The tank shall be provided with cover, drain pipes, distribution pipe outlet, overflow pipes
and air vent.

H.4 TREATED WATER MODULE & NEW DISTRIBUTION TANK


Stainless steel cylindrical water storage tank. Horizontal type with a capacity of 2028
gals. Built with AISI Stainless Steel Grade 304. Manufactured by BESTANK or
equivalent.

The tank shall be provided with cover, drain pipes, distribution pipe outlet, overflow pipes
and air vent.

All equipment and materials shall be inspected upon delivery and shall be tested after
installation.

I. ROTATING EQUIPMENT

I.1The pump shall be a vertical type multi-stage type. Its specification shall conform to
the recommendation of the manufacturer of the equipment.

I.2 The type, sizes, capacities, quantities and power characteristic of the pump shall be
specified as shown in the approved detailed design.

J. ELECTRICAL

J.1 All electrical works shall comply with the latest edition of the Philippine Electrical
Code, with applicable ordinance of the local government and all the rules and requirements of
the local power company.

J.2 Electrical materials shall be in accordance with the applicable Electrical Material
Specification(s) specified for the electrical line as indicated on the drawings.
