NAME OF THE SCHOOL: STRENGTH:
NAME OF THE SUBJECT:PHYSICS DURATION:40 min
NAME OF THE UNIT: GRAVITATION DATE:
NAME OF THE TOPIC: NEWTONS LAW OF GRAVITATION STAGE: 14+

CURRICULAR STATEMENT

Pupil develops factual knowledge conceptual knowledge procedural knowledge and metacognitive
knowledge of the concept of Newton’s law of universal gravitation and its use in our daily life by
observing analyzing , experimenting and evaluating by questioning, participating in practical work and
group discussion

CONTENT ANALYSIS

TERMS: Newton’s law of universal gravitation

FACTS: 1. a ball hits by a cricketer comes down

2. Everything in the universe attract each other

3. Tossed coin will comes down

CONCEPTS:

According to Newton’s law of universal gravitation:

Everything in the universe attracts each other. The magnitude of the attraction between the objects
directly proportional to the products of its masses and inversely proportional to the square of the
distance between them.

F=G𝑚1 𝑚2 /𝑟 2

LEARNING OUTCOMES

It enables pupil to develop

Factual knowledge on Newton’s law of universal gravitation by;

a) Recalling attraction between different object.

b) Recognizing factors influencing force between objects.
c) Find out uses for finding gravitational force between objects.

Conceptual knowledge on Newton’s law of universal gravitation

a) Explain the concept of gravitation
b) Explain universal law of gravitation
c) Illustrate the law with suitable examples
d) Use this concept in new or unfamiliar situation.

Procedural knowledge on Newton’s law of universal gravitation by;

a) Doing activities regarding law of gravitation.

b) Raising questions on Newton’s law of universal gravitation.

Metacognitive knowledge on Newton’s law of universal gravitation by;

a) Focusing the idea that gravitational force between object depends on the masses of the object
and distance between the objects.
b) Generating solution for freely falling body.

Different process skills such as observation, measuring, analyzing, inferring, making operational
definition, communicating, etc

Attitude towards science

PREREQUISITES

Classroom interaction procedure Pupil response

INTRODUCTION
Teacher show a picture

Can you recognize this picture?

ORIENTATION
Teacher divide students into different groups
PRESENTATION
ACTIVITY 1
Teacher ask students to observe the above picture
DISCUSSION POINTS
1. Can you identify the picture shown above? 1. Yes
2. What are the findings? 2. Apple drops on Newton’s head
3. Why apple did come down? 3. Due to earths attraction
ACTIVITY 2
Teacher tells about an incident.
Two persons walking on a wet surface. Suddenly
one person slips due to water, his companion hold
his hand to protect him from drop. Then ask
students to analyze the incident and note down
your observation on science diary.
DISCUSSION POINTS
1. Is there any force of attraction between 1. Yes
the two persons?
2. What is the factors affecting the 2. Weight of persons
magnitude of the force?
ACTIVITY 3
teacher show a picture and ask student to analyze
it and note down observations on science diary

DISCUSSION POINTS
1. What are masses? 1. M1 and m2
2. What you observe? 2. Attraction between m1 and m1
3. What is the significance of r? 3. Distance between m1 and m2
CONCEPT TO BE CONSOLIDATED

gravitation:
Everything in the universe attracts each other. The
magnitude of the attraction between the objects
directly proportional to the products of its masses
and inversely proportional to the square of the
distance between them.
