4.1 Introductory Activity

2 minutes Name some of the things found inside our classroom? What is matter?

Divide the whole class into 5 groups let students perform activity "Which is matter, which is not?" on pages
4.2 Activity 172-173 in the Learner's Manual. Let the students answer the activity by identifying which is matter which is
not and justify their answers. Each group will present the output of the activity through reporting. Criteria for
the presentation of the activity 10 pts - maximum participation of the members of the group -all the
answers of the activity are correct- publish the result on time 8 pts- one or two members of the group did
not participate -one answer is mistake - publish the result 5 minutes late 5 pts.-three or more members in
20 minutes the group did not participate - two answers in the activity are wrong - publish the result 8 minutes late

4.3 Analysis Describe the common characteristics of matter. What are other properties of matter?

10 minutes

Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass. The common properties of matter are space, mass
4.4 Abstraction and volume. Mass is the measure of the amount of matter the object has. Volume is the measure of the
space occupied by an object. There are other properties of matter such as hardness, texture, color,
flexibility, malleability, and electrical conductivity which vary from one sample to another.
