Cindy de Vries
Materials:
Any yarn with a matching hook
Drawstring or i-cord & tapestry needle

US terminology and worked in the round.

Stitches used:
Sl st = slip stitch
Ch = chain
Dc = double crochet
2 dc inc = 2 double crochet in the same stitch
V-stitch = dc, ch 1, dc worked in the same stitch
Dragon scales = crocodile stitch

Repeat stitches between * * until the end of each

round.

Bottom
Make a magic ring (or ch 2 and work in 2nd ch from hook)
1) 12 dc in ring, sl stitch in first dc to join round (12)
2) ch 3 (counts as first dc from now on), dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc, sl stitch in 3rd ch (24)
3) ch 3, dc in same st, *dc, 2 dc inc*, sl st in 3rd ch (36)
4) ch 3, dc in same st, *dc, dc, 2 dc inc*, sl st in 3rd ch (48)
Continue in this manner (increasing every round by 12 dc) if you want a bigger bottom/bag
or start with the dragon scales if the bottom is big enough. For a smaller bottom/bag you
can do less rounds for the bottom.

Dragon scales
5) ch 4 (first 3 ch make up a dc, fourth ch is the ch 1 of the v-stitch), dc in same st, skip 2 st,
*(dc, ch 1, dc) in next st, skip 2 st*, sl st in 3rd ch (16 v-stitches)
6) ch 3, 4 dc around first post of v-stitch ( / ), ch 1, 5 dc around second post of v-stitch ( \ ),
*skip 1 v-stitch, 5 dc around first post of next v-stitch ( / ), ch 1, 5 dc around second post of
v-stitch ( \ )*, sl stitch in ch 1 space of last v-stitch (8 dragon scales)
7) ch 4, dc in same ch 1 space, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch 1 space of each v-stitch, sl st in 3rd ch (16 v-
stitches)

Repeat round 6 and 7 until the bag is the required height, ending with round 6. To get the
dragon scales overlapping, slip stitch to the v-stitch above the one that didn’t had a dragon
scale in the previous row and make the first dragon scale in this v-stitch.

Weave in ends and put a drawstring through the holes of the v-stitches to close the bag.
