Reflection:

Read the questions below and choose (1) one to respond to

1. How does environmental print impact students’ language development, and

their reading and writing abilities?

2. How do students of different reading levels use environmental print?

3. How does awareness of environmental print impact how students view

themselves as readers?

4. How does a school-home connection (based on environmental print) impact

students' literacy development?

Schools should connect with the parents to build a good relationship. The
relationship between school and home is very important because it can
improve students' skills. Parents have a major role in the literacy
development of a child prior to formal education. If I talk about how does a
school and home connection impacts student's literacy development. I will
start with what the outcome should the teacher teach the student's in a day or
in the week and how the parents know what the students learn during the
week. For example, the teacher should put everything the parents need to
know in the ClassDojo, or the teacher can share a weekly plan with the
parents to know what the students are learning during the week.
In addition, the school can send with the students stories to read at the
home. The school advises the parents reading these stories with the students
and support them by giving a reward. Parents can do many activities about
these stories for the students. For example, parents allow the students to draw
the events of these stories or they can write the favorites things they are seeing
in these stories. In the teaching practice, I see the teacher every day choose
one student to read the story with her for the whole class and model the story.
Then, each student has a small book to draw the event of the story. Finally,
the teacher can talk with the parents about how can improve the writing and
reading skill at the home and how can use digital literacy with the students at
the home. For example, ABC Phonics Rocks for the IPad app and Dr. Kids
Phonics app.
