Trainee: Mahra Topic or Theme: Week 1 - Growing in the garden (Planting Seeds)
I am working on:
Meeting each child’s needs and interests to feel comfortable and enjoying the learning by:
Lesson Focus
● They begin to understand the importance of seeds in the life cycle of plants.
Lesson Outcomes
● Ask questions about living things and phenomena in the local environment based on
Observations.
● Uses prior knowledge to conclude what living organisms need to stay alive.
● Conclude that plants need water and light to live and grow.
● Participate in guided investigations and record collected data about objects, organisms
● Students use problem solving skills when faced with difficulties and challenges
Creativity: Kids will be able to use different materials to create their own piece of art
(sunflower).
Collaboration:
Communication:
● Student use verbal and non-verbal language to express and communicate feelings.
Key vocabulary
Creative:
Reading:
flower and plant poster and labels, fiction and non-fiction books about plants, flowers, seeds and
the phases of plant
growth.
Math:
Counters, seeds, number line, number cards, tally sticks, manipulatives, Lego, gloves number
and tally cards, cashier,
artificial flowers.
Science:
soil, seed packages, pots, magnifier, ruler, observation form, soil/cotton, types of fruit seeds,
measuring tape, real plants
(roots, stem, leaves, flower) in a pot and without a pot, magnifier, watering can, garden tools
Outside:
Third, I am going to show the kids the materials they will need to
plant the seeds.
Then,I am going to teach them the new words for each material, for
example, I am going to put some soil in the plate, I will ask the
children what is this? Then I am going to repeat the words so, they
will learn new vocabulary .
Fourth, I am going to share the soil and the seeds for each student.
After that, I am going to model how to plant seeds.
Then, I will play the song of little bean for the children to make
them active and understand what we are learning.
Finally, I am going to explain how the plant will be grown and what
it needs to grow?
Whole activity?
I am going to give the children the cards about the steps of growing
the plant.
Then, I am going to ask them to make groups of two students and
ask them to re-arrange the parts of plant.
Resources
Main activities
& Time
Activity 1 Math:
Activity 2 Art:
Activity 4 Phonice:
Giving children flascards that have different letters
to write them by using play-dough.
Activity 5 Math:
Kids will use the play-dough to follow the number
and write the number by using board pen.
I am going to use the cart behaviour to control the kids who not set quietly on the carpet.
Also, if I can’t keep up with child I will set this child next to me.
I am going to give star sticker for the child who set nicely in the carpet and who clean nicely in
the carpet.

My goals for this lesson are meeting each child’s needs and interests to feel comfortable and
enjoying the learning by:
My goal is teaching the children about how to plant seeds. 50% of children are being targeted
to understand how to plant the seeds on the soil by following the steps; this lesson will be
achieved in 45 minutes.
In addition, I achieved many things in my lesson for example; I noted the children understood
the lesson and how to plant and what do you think the plant needs to grow up. I know this while I
am doing the formative assessments: Oral questioning but I forget to do the four corners to insure
the students understand next time I am going to include formative assessment strategy in my
lesson. I interacted with the kids while doing the morning cycle, explaining how to plant in a
regular way. Asking kids many questions about the planting.
What is the benefit of having the students turn and talk after a question has been posed to them?
The benefits when children turn and talk after I ask the question, are allow the children to
think, talk to each other, and share the idea. I think in this way the children become more active
and knowledgeable about what they learn during the lesson. Also, the teacher allows all children
to participate in the discussion, rather than a few children participating in a class.
What is the purpose of the active engagement portion of the lesson cycle? Did your lesson
include this or was there only an introduction and modelled practice?
The goal of this part of the lesson to activate prior knowledge and get kids thinking. Remained
the kids of how to plants they have studied previously on the first day in this week because I
can’t teach them new things so in this school have a weekly plan for all the teachers. Also, I
improved the idea for this lesson to kids learn new thing. For example, how to plant seeds? In the
center, I added the sorting seeds and drawing the sunflower by using fork painting. I planted the
seed, and I used questioning techniques to elicit responses from students. I ask the students to
turn and talk with their partner about what they think a plant needs to grow. I did the introduction
and modeled practice only because my MST said the time is finish because in this school, they
have only 8 minutes to teach the kids on the carpet. I think next time; my MST should give me
ten or fifteen minutes to cover all the things in my lesson. After kids finished talking to their
partners, I asked them what does a plant need to grow? Kids answered me appropriately. But, I
tried to cover all things on my lesson and I reviewed the centers quickly for the kids.
1- I should to do the formative assessment like four corners because I need to cover all the
points in my lesson and I need to see if the children understand or not.
In the future:
I will use the fun book like “The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle, to introduce fun activity, this story a
picture book that details the life cycle of a seed. From there, I can use several related activities to
keep them motivated to learn more about plants.
