of one word changes it into
another word.

Examples of prefixes are:

Re-
Un-
Dis-
Over-
Mid-
Pre-
If we add ‘re’ in the word
‘plant’, the meaning of the root
word ‘plant’ changes,

Replant means to plant again,

story, have you read stories about
fairies and dwarfs? Do fairies exist?
Do you know how butterflies exist?
Okay, today we will read a story
which entitles “The Origin of
Butterflies” Follow me, as I read the
story.

The Origin of Butterflies

There once lived an old woman on the

shore of Laguna de Bay. She had a
large garden where vegetables and
flowers grew. At a little distance from
her house was a small barangay where
fishermen and their families lived. The
people often visited the old woman.
When they visited her, they would
bring her fish and the old woman
would give them vegetables and
flowers in exchange for fish.
The people believed that the old
woman was a fairy. They never saw
her working in her garden at daytime.
But every night her house was lighted
with a small lamp. In this strange light
the people thought that they could see
a beautiful woman and many drwarfs.
They believed that the old woman was
a fairy during the night and the dwarfs
were workers in her garden.
One day, two strangers came to their
barangay. They were a young man and
woman who seemed to be very proud.
They said they did not like anything
that was ugly or unpleasant. They
liked to see only things that are
beautiful…

What is the lesson of the story?

We need to respect our elders.
Yes. That’s right. Very good!

What is Prefix and

what are the examples of prefixes or words with
prefixes? (The pupils will answer)

prefixes are
“re,un and dis”…..

That’s right! Very Good

b. Application

Now that you’ve already know the prefixes, Let’s try

to find some words with prefixes from the story
“Origin of the Butterfly” and let’s try to analyse the
meaning of those words as used in the sentence.

Find as many as you can and write them in task 3 of

your answer sheet (The pupils will answer)

1. Unpleasant
The couple did not like to
see unpleasant things.

2. Unkind

when she heard unkindly
words.
