Sec. Piñol and President Duterte agreed that the country’s agriculture and fisheries program must go
back to the basics which are to (1) produce food and (2) address poverty. Thus, agriculture efforts
today are focused on the production and trade of two commodity groups: (1) Staple Food Commodities
to ensure food sufficiency and security and (2) High Value Crops to generate jobs and foreign
earnings.
