COLORADO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Colorado, Digos City
The National Deworming Day, which targets to deworm all school children
from Kinder to Grade 6 in all public schools nationwide are project of DOH in partnership
with DepEd to cure the high prevalence of children affected by intestinal parasitic infections
which may lead to cognitive impairment and malnutrition, among other complications.
Before the Colorado Elementary School conducted the said activity, we had an orientation
about Deworming headed by the BHW of Colorado, during the orientation we distributed
parent’s consents.
The teacher makes sure that all their children were present in that day so that
no one can be left behind and we are so happy that we almost have a 100% of dewormed
students, 94% are dewormed with the same reason, parents are afraid of the side effects of
the tablet. Teachers talk to the parents of the pupils to advice that all they children need to
have full stomach before entering to the school that will serve as a precautionary measure in
taking deworming medicine. Teachers facilitate the distribution of chewable tablets to the
pupils with the assistance of health personnel from the Barangay.
At the end, the said activity was very successful with the collaborative effort
of everyone, especially the parents who believed the good effect of the deworming tablets.
The Department of Health and the Department of Education, particularly for Colorado ES
children, are truly closely interrelated and effective for we believed that learning cannot
happen without the students being healthy.
