I. Objectives:
1. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of…
 The unit, mole that quantitatively measures the number of very small particles of matter.

2. Performance standard: The learners shall be able to:

 Analyze the percentage composition of different brands of two food products and
decide on the products’ appropriate percentage composition.
3. Learning Competencies/Objectives:
 Use the mole concept to express mass of substances. (S9MT-IIi19)
 Determine the percentage composition of a compound given its chemical formula and
vice versa. (S9MT-IIj20)
4. Specific objectives: The learners will be able to…
 Determine the percentage composition of common grocery items.
 Realize the importance of having knowledge on percentage composition to apply on
real life situation.
II. Subject Matter
1. Topic : Percentage Composition of a Compound
2. Reference : Teacher’s Guide
3. Materials: Visual aid, Marker, etc.
III. Learning Task
1. Review
 Review to the students the following to the students.
o Mass number
o Molar mass
2. Motivation
 What beverages do you usually intake?
 What grocery items do you usually buy in the market?
3. Lesson Proper
3.1 Activity
Instruct the students to draw a concept map on the mole concept.

3.2 Analysis
 How to determine the percentage composition of basic commodities.
 What are the uses of having knowledge in percentage composition?

3.3 Abstraction

 List the substances written as contents/ingredients on the label. Research from a

chemistry book or from the internet the chemical formula of the substances on your list.
Compute for the percentage composition of the substances you have listed.
 Knowledge about percentage composition is useful in choosing the best fertilizer that
gives higher amount of nitrogen and potassium in the soil. Aside from this, it will help us to
be a wise consumer because it is a good basis of choosing the food product we need to
eat based on its content. Whenever you buy t-shirt, it is good to check whether it is 100%
cotton or just 75% cotton. In terms of product development, percentage composition will
indicate the correct amount of substances needed in order to produce the expected
product.

3.4 Application Instruct the students to determine the percentage composition of the following:
o Monosodium glutamate
o Table salt
o Sugar
o Soft drink
o vinegar
IV. Assessment Determine for the percentage composition of each element of the compound:
 soy sauce
 water

the formative assessment
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation.
C. Did the remedial work? No. of
learners who have caught up with
the lesson.
D. No. of learners who continue to
require remediation.
E. Which of my teaching strategies
work well?
F. What difficulties did I encounter
which my principal or supervisor
can help me solve?
