The Christmas Meeting will be held on the 1st of December at the MELT Restaurant
Time: 6.15 pm. Dinner at 7.00 pm. Charge $35 per Head. This is a Ladies Invitation.

The meeting was opened by President Barry who asked Brent Bohanna to say grace. And welcomed our
Speaker Dana Peterson and Robert Adair.
He then mentioned that District Governor Howard has been in touch with Greymouth Rotary regarding Pike
River Mine and they advised nothing is required at this stage.
President Barry said that the Quiz night was well received and about $700 was the club takings.
Journey of Hope: This is a group of Rotarians who are cycling the length of New Zealand they wish to have
Rotarians sponsor 14.3 km of the journey i.e. $70 (5.00 km). The funds raised will be for the Polio Fund.
The Trust: Richard Campbell said that the students who will receive benefits from the trust are much the
same as last year.
Raffle: The 3 prizes Jim Ross, Richard Campbell and Steve Botica.
Sergeant: Brent was asked - What are the 4 seasons?. Answer - Salt, Pepper, Mustard and Vinegar. this is
a sample how the Sergeant got his funds. Very Clever keep it up.
Our Speaker: Introduced by Richard Campbell, Dana comes from the USA, her the full name is Dana
Resbelle Peterson. Her talk was about paper and how it is made, this was a means to bring a thought to us
all that we cannot keep using and wasting materials paper is a good material to expand. Firstly it requires
trees and this can mean decimating our forests then to make paper you have to use electricity to power the
machine to grind the up the wood, then chemicals are used to make this a pulp, there's a problem of the toxic
waste chemicals and disposing of them. More electric power is required for to bring the pulp into sheets of
paper through the presses.
Dana also brought to our attention that the world is getting warmer and she had some graphs showing this
over a period of time.
The vote of thanks was given by Graham Calvert who handled the questions from the members.
