“Changing Percent to Fraction and Decimal and Vice Versa
Reference: Mathematics V, pp. 350 - 352

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparation

1. Review
What was our lesson
yesterday? Our lesson was about changing fraction
to decimal.

Convert the following fraction

in decimal.

1. 2/5 1. 0.4
2. ¾ 2. 0.75
3. 1/5 3. 0.2
4. 2/8 4. 0.25
5. 3/5 5. 0.6

2. Motivation
I have here a short story. Can
you please read it? (Pupils read the story)

Aling Nena plant plants in her backyard

last month. She put fertilizer in the soil and
gives water every day. After a week,
100% of Aling Nena's plant bloom
beautiful flowers.

B. Lesson Proper
How many of Aling Nena’s plant
bloom beautiful flowers? 100%, Miss.

But what does 100% mean? Since

percent means hundredths or per
100. 100% means 100/100 or 1 in
fraction. Again, 100% percent
mean? 100% means 100/100 or 1 in fraction.

Percent can be greater than

100%.
For example, we have here 175%.
How will we turn 175% in fraction?
First, write 175 and then remove
the % and write 100 as the
denominator of 175. 175
Who can write it on the board?
100
Second, we need to simplify the
fraction until we get the final
answer. Can anyone simplify the 175 25 7 or 3
= 1
fraction on the board?
100 25 4 4

How about we turn the fraction

into percent?

So, I have here ¼. How will we turn

¼ into percent?

First, we need to divide the

numerator by the denominator.
Who can divide it on the board? ¼ =1 4 = 0.25

Next, we need to move the

decimal point 2 places to the right
and change the decimal point
into percent sign. Who wants to try 0.25 = 25%
it?

Now, how we express decimal into

Percent?

I have here 0.275. So, how will we

change 0.275 into percent?

We have 2 ways to express

decimal into percent.

First, we can multiply 0.275 by 100.

Then add the percent sign.
Anyone? 0.275 x 100 = 27.5%

Second, we just move the decimal

point 2 places to the right. And
replace the decimal point by
percent sign.
Anyone? 0.275 = 27.5%

Now, how we will express decimal

into percent?
So, I have here 62%.

To express percent into decimal,

remove the percent sign change it
to decimal point. Move the
decimal point 2 places to the left.
And add 0 if needed.
Anyone? 62% = 62. = 0.62
C. Application

Let see if you really understand our

lesson.

Express as percent. Pupils answer the activity on the board.

1. 3/5 6. 0.04
2. 1/7 7. 0.0008
3. 7/8 8. 7
4. ½ 9. 0.1
5. 4/7 10. 0.00003

D. Generalization

How will we change percent to

fraction? We remove the percent sign, write 100
as the denominator and simplify the
fraction.

How about we change fraction to

percent? We divide the numerator by
denominator. Move the decimal point 2
places to the right and change decimal
point to percent sign.

How we change decimal to

percent? We can multiply the number by100 or
move the decimal point 2 places to the
right.

Lastly, how will we change

percent to decimal? Change the percent sign to decimal
point. Move 2 places to the left and add
zero if needed.

IV. Evaluation
Change the following to fraction, decimal, and percent.
