Grade-9 CHRYSANTHEMUM

February 6, 2018

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:

1. identify the kinds of quadrilateral;

2. draw different kinds of quadrilateral; and

3. relate what they have learned in the four elements of the earth.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Kinds of Quadrilateral

b. Reference: Mathematics Learner’s Material ,pp. 305-306

c. Materials : Laptop,Projector,Chalkboard,Chalk,Ruler,Illustration board, and Flashcard

d.Values Integration: Cooperation

II. Procedures

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparations

a. Prayer
All rise and let’s have our prayer to be led by
Keycie.
b. Greetings Good Morning ma’am.
Good Morning class!
Before you take your seat kindly arrange your chairs (Students will follow)
properly and pick up those scattered plastics and papers
under your chair.
c. Checking of Attendance No one is absent ma’am.
Andrea Jane who is absent today?
d. Checking of Assignment
Get your assignment and let’s check. 1.A
2.C
3.A
4.B
5.D

Directions: Write PF if the figure is a plane figure and

SF if the figure is a solid figure.

1.Pyramid 1.SF
2. Nonagon 2.PF
3. Cube 3.SF
4.Pentagon 4.PF
5.Cylinder 5.SF
6.Rectangle 6.PF
7.Undecagon 7.PF
8.Hexagon 8.PF
9.Heptagon 9.PF
10.Cone 10.SF

e. Drill/Review
Directions: Match the figure in column A to their
corresponding names in Column B.

A B

1. A. Octagon 1.D

2. B. Heptagon 2.G

3. C. Nonagon 3.H

4. D. Pentagon 4.A

5. E. Decagon 5.C

6. F. Triangle 6.E

7. G. Quadrilateral 7.B

8. H. Hexagon 8.F

Now you have a better understanding in different kinds

of polygons.

f. Motivation

We have an activity entitled “4 Pics 1 Word”

Are you familiar with this game? Yes Ma’am!

Good. Now I will group you into five and I show you
different sets of pictures. Each group is going to identify
what word is being represented by the pictures and write
on the illustration board.
The group who gets the correct answer will raise the
illustration board and will get points. The groups earning
the highest points will get 10 points, followed by 8, 6, 4
and 2 respectively.
Understand? Yes Ma’am!
1. 1. Rectangle

E N S A G E E R
D Q U F T C L H

2.
2. Square

S E Q R T
R A H O U

3.
3. Rhombus

H M B H A E U
O I S R P A L
4. 4. Trapezoid

Z P O D I R T
A F E B L L E

5. 5. Parallelogram

A R L M N I L L L
E A A G P O R U G

Look at those pictures, what have you observed? As I observed in those pictures they have
different shapes but have the same number of
sides.
Which polygon has 4 sides? The kind of polygon that has 4 sides is a
quadrilateral.
Very Good!
B. Developmental Activities

a. Presentation
What we’ve done in our activity has something to do in
our topic. But before that please be guided by the
following learning targets. Yes Ma’am

b. Discussion of the lesson

Have you read a short story?

What short story do you like most?

Would you like to share the title of the short story?

Now I will tell you a story.

(Present the Story)

QUADRILATERAL

c. Fixing Skills

We will have a game entitled “Is it a FACT or

BLUFF?”
I will give you a card with the word “FACT” written on
one side and “BLUFF” on the other side.

I will read the statement twice and if you think the

statement is true, you will raise “FACT” and if it is not
you will raise “BLUFF”.
Is that clear? Yes Ma’am.

Okay, Let’s Begin.

1. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram. 1. Bluff

2. A trapezoid is a quadrilateral. 2. Fact
3. A square is a parallelogram. 3. Fact
4. A square is a rectangle. 4. Fact
5. A rectangle is a square. 5.Bluff
6. A square is a rhombus. 6. Fact
7. A rectangle is a parallelogram. 7. Fact
8. A rhombus is a square. 8.Bluff
9. A rhombus is a parallelogram. 9. Fact
10. Every square is a rectangle and a rhombus. 10. Fact

d. Valuing
How many sides do a quadrilateral have? Four.

Can we consider 2 or 3 sided figure a quadrilateral? No.

How can you relate the four sides of quadrilateral to the 4

elements of the earth?
What will happen to the earth if one element is missing? This occurrence will surely result to
imbalance. If one element is absent it will
affect the earth and its people directly and
indirectly. Just like in the quadrilateral, we
can’t consider a figure a quadrilateral if it has
no 4 sides. That’s how important the 4 sides
to a quadrilateral and the 4 elements of the
earth.
e. Generalization
What is quadrilateral? Quadrilateral is close plane figure consist of
Excellent! four sides.

What are the different kinds of quadrilaterals? -The different kinds of quadrilateral are
That’s correct! parallelogram, rectangle, square, rhombus,
and trapezoid.
f. Application
For our next activity, in the same group, you are
going to draw a scenario in which all the
quadrilaterals are present. I will provide you 7
minutes to finish the task. Then you are going to
paste your drawing on the board and discuss it to
the class.
The criteria will be :

Creativity -5 pts.
Relevance to the topic -3 pts
Cleanliness -2 pts.

Total -10 pts.

The points that you will receive will be added to

your previous points.
Is that clear?
Yes Ma’am
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Identify and draw the following.
(2 pts. each)

1. A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides 1. Parallelogram

and two pairs of opposite angles are equal.
2. A quadrilateral with two pairs of opposite sides
are parallel and equal and all angles are right 2. Rectangle
angles.
3. A quadrilateral with two pairs of opposite are
parallel, four equal sides and all angles are right. 3. Square
4. A quadrilateral with four equal sides and two
pairs of opposite sides are equal.
5. A quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel 4. Rhombus
sides.
V. Assignment 5. Trapezoid
For your assignment, on your group you will
make a jingle about what you have learned today. You
are going to present it tomorrow. The jingle should not be
longer two minutes. Here’s the criteria for your
presentation :
Creativity -25%
Originality -25%
Content -25%
Choreography -25%
Total -100%
