the lesson FRIENSHIPS LAST FOREVER
There were three friends named Anne, Ren and Sam. They went to a mall
to buy some stuff. While walking around, Anne and Ren saw some picture
puzzles and they both wanted to buy one. Two were very busy in choosing
what to buy. While waiting for their turn in the cashier, Ren got the picture
puzzle chose by Anne. He tried to open it without Anne’s permission.
Accidentally, it fell on the ground into pieces. As a return to what he
did, Anne took Rens’ puzzle and she opened it and threw on the floor. The
two got angry with each other.
Sam tried to mediate between the two but they both wanted to fix the
picture puzzles first.
Class, Sam needs your help to fix those pieces of the picture puzzles.

FIX ME, IM BROKEN!

Mechanics: Arrange the pieces of puzzle to create the pictures.
ANNE’S PICTURE PUZZLE REN’S PICTURE PUZZLE

Since the two pictures were fixed successfully, Sam thought some ideas on
how Anne and Rens’ problem will be settled.
Based on the activity, answer the following question.
1. How do you find the activity?
2. Analyze those pictures, what can you say about them?

SIMILAR POLYGONS

Class, do you have any idea about polygons? How will you describe it?
When we say Polygons it is a closed figure where the sides are all line
segments.

Two polygons are similar if their vertices can be paired so that

corresponding angles are similar and corresponding sides are proportional.
We use the following symbols in similar figures;
~ is read as “is similar to”
↔ is read as “corresponds to”

The constant ratio of the lengths of two corresponding sides of similar

polyg polygons is called scale factor.
For e Example no 1:
1. If ∆KLM ~∆DEF, DE = 9, EF = 10, DF = 4 and KL = 13, find LM
and KM. E
L

F
M
K D

Solution:
KL LM KM KL
= = =
DE EF DF DE

13 LM KM 13
= = =
9 10 4 9

13 LM
=
9 10

9 LM = 13(10)
9LM = 130
LM = 14.44

9KM = 13(4)
9 KM 52
=
9 9
KM = 5.78
Example no. 2:
If ∆ABC ~∆XYZ, XY = 18, YZ = 20, XZ = 8 and AB = 26, find BC and
AC.
B
Y

C X Z
A
Solution:
AB BC AC AB
= = =
XY YZ XZ XY

26 BC AC 26
= = =
18 20 8 18

26 BC
=
18 20

18BC = 20(26)
18BC = 520
BC= 28.9
AC 26
=
8 18
18AC= 8(26)
18 AC 208
=
18 18
AC = 11.6
2. Triangle PQR is similar to triangle BCD. PR = 40, QR = 30, BD =
16. The perimeter of ∆ PQR is 90. Find the perimeter of ∆ BCD.

Solution:
Solve for x.

P=a+b+c
90 =PQ + 40 + 30
PQ = 90 – 70
PQ =20

Since PQ = 20, then solve for BC

Solution:

PQ 40 30 40
= = =
BC 16 CD 16

20 40 30 40
= = =
BC 16 CD 16

Solve for BC
20 40
=
BC 16

40BC = 16(20)
40BC = 320
40 = 40
BC = 8

Solve for CD

30 40
=
CD 16

40CD = 16(30)
40CD = 480
40 40
CD = 12

Solve for the perimeter.

P∆ BCD= 8 + 12 + 16
P∆ BCD=36
Example no. 3:
Triangle ABC is similar to triangle RUN. AC = 55, BC = 40, RN = 18. The
perimeter of ∆ ABC is 110. Find the perimeter of ∆ RUN.
Solution:
Solve for x.

P=a+b+c
110 =AB + 55 + 40
AB = 110 – 95
AB = 15

Since AB = 15, then solve for RU

Solution:

AB 55 40 55
= = =
RU 18 UN 18

15 55 40 55
= = =
RU 16 UN 18

Solve for RU
15 55
=
RU 18

55RU = 18(15)
55RU = 270
55 = 55
RU = 4.91

Solve for UN

40 55
=
UN 18

55UN = 18(40)
55UN = 720
55 55
UN = 13.09

Solve for the perimeter.

P∆ RUN = 4.91+ 13.09 + 18
P∆ RUN =36
Developing Mastery Application
Needs to Formative The next day after, Sam decided to prepare a date for his two friends. He
Assessment 3 invited both of them but Ren asked some favour to Sam before he said yes;
Sam needs your help.
The class will be group into two. Each group will be performing different
task. I will give each group 10 minutes to prepare for the task and another 3
minutes for the presentation. Each group should make a yell and you’re
going to present your yell when your group is done with the task. The group
with the best yell will receive additional points.
