FUNCTION OF KARUNA INTERNATIONAL
ON 27TH & 28TH DECEMBER 2019

The two day conference of Karuna International
commenced on 27th December at 9am. and concluded
on 28/12/2019 at 4:30pm. The venue and stage was
appropriately decorated for the mega two day event.
At 8:30 am the Reception Desk was a buzz of activity
with the registration of delegates from all over India.
Day I (27/12/2019) Session I : Inaugural function
The Karuna Exhibition was inaugurated by Sri
Mohanlal Chordia, Chairman, Mylapore Jain Sangh at
9:30 a.m. All exhibits were on the 14 programmes and
18 activities of the Karuna Movement. Various schools
had exhibited their Karuna projects.
The Conference commenced on an auspicious note with
an Invocation Song to Lord Ganesha, followed by the
Karuna Prayer, Karuna Song, Welcome Dance and Deep
Jyothi song. The lighting of the Kuthu Vilakku, by the
Chief Guest, Dr.A.C. Shanmugam, Founder Chancellor,
DR MGR Educational and Research Institute, University;
the Guests of Honour, Sri. J. Mohanlal Chordia
Chairman, Mylapore Jain Sangh & Sri. S.Shantilal Jain
President, Sri. Chandraprabhu Jain Naya Mandir Trust
along with the Office Bearers of Karuna International,
announced the Inauguration of the 2 day conference.

Tatia, General Secretary, Sri. Kedar Mal Rathi,
Conference Chairman, Sri Suresh Kankariya, Vice
President, Sri. Padamchand S.Chhajjer, Secretary, Sri.
Sajjanraj Surana, Chennai Kendra President,graced the
dais. The Office Bearers welcomed the Guests for the
day in a traditional manner presenting each of them with
a mala, shawl and memento.
The Welcome Address was presented by Sri
Kailashmull Dugar, National President. He extended
a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour,
and the 300 Karuna Delegates from all over the country.
He gave a brief on the activities of Karuna International,
mentioned that ‘we catch them young….’ He mentioned
that ours is not a religious movement, but adheres to
the 51 A g of the Constitution promoting Animal Welfare
and Environment Protection.
He appreciated the services of Dr. A. C. Shanmugam, in
the field of education and protection of the environment.
He appealed to the Chief Guest to take the Karuna

Movement to the Universities and colleges where he
was involved in similar activities. He also spoke of the
social services rendered by Sri. J. Mohanlal Chordia.
Sri. S.Shantilal Jain, also the VP in Karuna International,
has been a pillar of support raising funds for our non
profit organization. The recipient of numerous awards,
Rajasthan Shree Award, Samaj Ratna Award, he has
also been honoured by the former President, Smt.
Pratibha Patil for his contributions to the Cancer Hospital
in Amravathi and other social services.
He paid his respects to the three staunch stalwarts of
KI, Pujya Chitra Bhanuji, Sri. Surendra Bhai Mehta, Sri
Inder Chandra Dugar of Bikaner who will bless us with
their divine guidance forever.
He spoke of Sri Dulichand Jain, Chairman, KI who was
unable to attend the conference due to his ill health and
was sorely missed by one and all. He concluded by
welcoming each and every Karuna member and thanking
them for their presence at the conference.
The Annual Report was presented by Sri Padam
Kumar Tatia, General Secretary.

states under 39 Kendras.
• New Kendras in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu; & Ajnour,
Thikamgadh, MP under the leadership of Sri Ajit
Jain Jalaj.
• Insight into several special programmes, like Say NO
to Leather, NO Plastics, National Level Competitions
and Examinations.
• 13 Teacher Training Programmes and 33 Student
Training Programmes
• 10936 students appeared for the Examination on
Stories of Compassion and KI disbursed prizes
worth Rs 300000.
• Thousands of Students from 55 schools participated
in the Drawing Competition to promote Animal
Welfare and were awarded prizes worth Rs
3,00,000.( in collaboration with Humane Society
International.)
• Karuna Ahimsa Sammelan was conducted on
3/11/2019 at Ahmedabad and in Jalgaon on
5/11/2019.
The power point presentation highlighted the various
Karuna Activities in schools and colleges; this was
greatly applauded by the audience.
The Chief Guest, Dr. A. C. Shanmugam was introduced
to the audience by Ms Vijayasri, Sports Secretary, Ethiraj
College, State & National Cricketer. She enumerated

the awards, National & International conferred on his
august personality and the various avenues of his social
services.
Dr. A. C. Shanmugam released the Karuna Geet Book;
the dignitaries on the dais received copies; the first copy
was received by Sri Mohan Lal Choridia. This book of
songs has been composed and edited by Sri Ajit Jain
Jalaj, our National Pracharak.
In his Key Note Address, Dr. A.C. Shanmugam
congratulated Karuna International for its achievements.
He whole heartedly appreciated the Training programmes
for teachers and students, with the objective of making
our future citizens responsible and conscious of their
duties; in creating a Vasudeva Kutumbakam. He quoted
APJ Abdul Kalam, Dr Radhakrishnan, and inspired
our organization to reach further heights. He extolled
the vision and mission of the organization which was
aligned with the ideals of the HR ministry of our Modi
Government.
The Guest of Honour, Sri. S.Shantilal Jain was
introduced by Sri Sajjan Jain, who applauded his
philanthropic services to the society. In his address, Sri
Shantilal Jain, inspired the audience by quoting Mahavir,
Krishna, Mohammed, Guru Nanak and Christ; all the
epitomes of Karuna. He motivated each one of us to
take a pledge, to serve society, to fulfil our basic duties
and responsibilities. He concluded with Jai Karuna, Jai
Ahimsa, Jai Bharath.
The First session concluded with the Vote of Thanks
proposed by Sri. Daulat Raj Banthiya, Secretary,
Chennai Kendra. After a short Tea Break, the Second
Session ensued.
Session II:
The second session was chaired by Sri Kailashmull
Dugar, Sri Suresh Kankariya & Dr Pratap Kumar,
Commissioner, Right to Information, Tamil Nadu.
Sri I Joseph, Ahimsa Artist was invited to present a short
talk. He narrated how he converted to vegetarian way
of life when he was young. He spoke about his work in
schools and colleges where he inspired students through
Ahimsa Art, which used and depicted Ahimsa alone.
Smt. Lakshmi Neelakantan made a power packed
presentation on Vegetarianism, Relevance in this
Era. Using audio and video, she led the audience, the
Activists and Teachers to pledge to make a peaceful,
harmonious world. She presented facts to prove that
being a non vegetarian is not a personal choice but one
which will have disastrous effects on our planet and will
affect future generations. She drew the attention of the
audience to the hard core facts that eating meat has

a negative impact on the Climate, Global Warming,
Causes Pollution of air, water and land.
Sri Dr. Pratap Kumar, Vice President, Chennai Kendra,
revealed to the audience how he converted to being a
vegetarian many years ago. He presented the audience
with the very useful information that they can ask
questions and receive answers regarding Government
procedure within 3 months. They must use this right that
the governance has bestowed on them.
Session III:
This session had all the Kendra Representatives
presenting their reports under the chairmanship of Sri
Suresh Kankariya. He motivated each Kendra to reach
greater heights. The following is the list of the Kendras
whose reports were presented:

All the Kendras present were honoured with Mementoes.
After the Tea Break, Ms Abhi Sankari, President, KIND
made an interesting presentation, Role of Resource
Persons. She posed various questions to the audience,
her session was thought provoking and informative.
Ms Indhumathi, Secretary, KIND made a short
presentation adding value to the same topic. Her
enthusiasm and energy was infectious and inspired the
audience.
Sri Suresh Kankariya made a power point presentation
on Effective Management of Karuna Clubs. He said
that Teachers must be role models for their students to
emulate. They must consider the school as the temple

of Knowledge and their profession as worship. They
need to work with the students to make them good
global citizens. The Teacher must lead his students from
Hinsa to Ahimsa, Anger to Forgiveness; Pride to Self
esteem; inculcating all the Karuna Values. He cited the
examples of Ekalavya and Shravan for the values they
depict. He explained in detail the Karuna Values, how
using them in their teaching, teachers can contribute
to Nation Building. The session thus concluded on an
inspiring note.
The Cultural Programme in the evening was coordinated
by Bhakthavatsalam Vidyashram. The participants in
the colourful programmes were from these schools:

All the cultural programmes were a feast for the eyes
and ears. The young participants kept the audience
enthralled with their mesmerizing performances.
The Evening programmes concluded with the Vote
of Thanks presented by Sri. Manoharlal Dhiren,
Treasurer, Karuna International.
Day II (28/12/2019)
Session I:
The Auditorium was abuzz with activity and filled to
capacity at 9 am on the second day of the conference.

The session commenced after a melodious prayer by
the nightingales of Bhakthavatsalam Vidyashram,

followed by a welcome dance.
The Welcome Address was presented by Sri. Sajjanraj
Surana.
This was followed by an interesting and inspiring
session by Sri. A R Shanthilal Nahar: Guidelines to
Conduct Training Programmes. Sri Nahar, a Trainers
Trainer, eminent speaker, who has authored several
books and addressed innumerable gatherings, gave
some significant points for conducting effective training
programmes.
He gave guidelines for the Giver, Receiver and the
Middleman. For the Giver, the Resource Persons, the
Karuna Activists he said:
 Prepare well.
 Do not speak on any controversial topics, No
religion, No Politics.
 Come down to the level of the receivers.
 You must be lifelong learners.
 Body language and voice, pitch etc is of great
importance.
 Be proud of yourself.
 Have a role model/ Be a role model yourself.
 Be punctual, One minute lost is equal to 50 min lost.
 Communication should be good, or it can create
complication.
 Speak on a positive note always.
 Be a good listener.
 Act as if you love what you do even when you do not.
For the Receiver: the students, Teacher Trainees
he said:
 Do your Duty well, for students prime duty is to study.
 Think Big, then you can achieve big.
 Be the best in what you do.
 Think and live life the Karuna way.
 Be alert, be a good observer.
 Avoid Wastage.
 Be sincere.
 BMI : Body, Mind and intellect must be healthy
He added that even if 2% of the people are full of Karuna,
there will be no wars in the world. Words have a lot of
power. One Teacher Training Programme can change
many persons.

He invited Sri. Madanlal Nahar, Sri. Ramesh Babu,Ms.
Yamini, Ms. Abhi Sankari, Ms Indhumathi, Mr. Siddarth
to express their thoughts in the time allotted to them;
stressing on the choice of words and time management.
The session concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Sri
Suresh Kankariya.
Session II: Karuna Club Awards Ceremony
The session commenced after the short Tea Break.

the Guest of Honour, Sri Narendra Srisrimal, Chairman
Medi Sales Group were escorted to the dais.
The session was inaugurated by the lighting of the
lamp with the students of Bhakthavatsalam Vidyashram
singing the Karuna Prayer. The Welcome Address
was presented by Sri Kailashmull Dugar, National
President. He extended a warm welcome to the Chief
Guest, Guests of Honour, and the enthusiastic audience
who were in the auditorium.
He mentioned that Kiran had changed to Kalyan for
Karuna. He profusely thanked Dr Gangwal for graciously
accepting at the last minute. He extolled the life and
services of the two guests appreciating the numerous
awards bestowed on them. The guests were welcomed
in the traditional manner with malas, shawls and
mementoes.
The Gusest of Honour, Sri Narendra Srisrimal was
introduced to the audience by Sri KL Jain, Honarary
Auditor and member Karuna International. He spoke
of how Sri Sirisimal had built his empire from humble
beginnings at the tender age of 16 when he had to
shoulder the responsibility of his entire family.
In his address, Sri Srisrimal congratulated Karuna
International for the unique efforts towards promoting
Humane values, Vegetarianism. He paid his respects to
all the teachers who are the pillars of KI. He said that he
considered challenges as blessings as they inspired him
and instilled confidence in him. Confidence can make the
Impossible to I’m possible and everything is made easy.
He asked all to dream BIG. The next year, 25th year of
KI, we must plan to reach out to more students, he said.

The Chief Guest, Dr.Kalyan M Gangwal, was
introduced by Ms Swarnalata, Joint Secretary, Chennai
Kendra. A doctor who heals the mind, body and spirit,
a person who lives life the Karuna way, has practised
and preached the same. He has received 136 awards
and nearly 2 crores of rupees ; all of it is dedicated to
service to society. From his early days of practice, he
has devoted 50% of his earnings and his time towards
Vegetarianism, Animal Rights, De addiction. He was the
recipient of Acharya Hasti Karuna Ratna Award from KI
at the National Conference held in Jodhpur.
In his Key Note Address; Dr Gangwal congratulated our
organization for the Karuna Movement. He spoke of his
great regard for the Chairman, Sri DC Jain and his visit
to him that morning. He expressed his deep respects
and gratitude to all the teachers , Karuna Activists. We
often regard health in the social, physical and mental
aspects; but spiritual health is the most important of all.
This is what we have considered important for ages in
our country. He quoted Obama on Ahimsa, Einstein for
his love of the Indian philosophy, Yoshinori Ohsumi,
Nobel Laurette, who won for his studies in autophagy;
saying that all these ideas from India have placed us on
the International platform.
Karuna work is working unto God, equal to prayer, he
said. Karuna is the basis of all religions in the world.
Never give up your principles; you can change the world
with your strong ideals and beliefs. Face challenges
bravely and make change happen. He quoted Dr
APJ Abdul Kalam who maintained that the three
most powerful missiles were Truth, Non Violence &
Compassion.
He spoke of his achievements where in, 95000 people
pledged vegetarianism; animal sacrifices being almost
stopped in Tuja Bhavani temple, Bird hospitals in Pune
and many more. He mentioned how he inspired 1500
passengers on a cruise to adopt vegetarianism with his
talk on how food affects our health. He motivated each
one of us to pledge ourselves to Karuna.
The Guests presented the much awaited Karuna Club
Awards; 30 Awards were presented to schools with
the best Karuna Clubs; 14 Dayawan Awards were
presented to students; 2 Best Karuna Teachers were
awarded.

DaanUtsav is celebrated in India as the other festival like
Diwali, Christmas or Eid. The main motto of this event was
engaging children through “Act of Giving”. This activity

entertaining through the “Act of Giving” and experience the
Joy in that. This activity enabled the children to empathize

Ahimsa (Peace) Rally for 150th Birth Celebration of

An Ahimsa (Peace) Rally was undertaken by the Karuna
Club of our Vidyalaya through Sekkadu Main Road, Avadi,
on 5.11.’19 to emphasise the importance of peace.
Our country needs only peace, tolerance and prosperity.
The only way to bring back peace is to empower ourselves
spiritually and remove all negative qualities from minds.
Gandhiji spread non- violence through movements and
writings.

Chennai Kendra, presided over the function.
The programme started with Karuna Prayer, Pledge,
Speeches on Gandhiji’s policy of Non -Violence and
Ahimsa. Around 600 students from class 5th to 7th
participated in the rally. The Chief Guest gave an inspiring
speech about the duties of the students. The programme
ended with the National Anthem.

Inter school competition on 23 rd November 2019 in the
School premises.

Students and teachers from seven schools participated in
the competition. The programme started at 8:30 a.m with
Karuna Prayer, Pledge, followed by Welcome Address,
Lighting of Kuthuvilakku by Chief Guest, Invocation Dance.
Our Chief Guest gave an inspiring speech. 17 competitions
were conducted for Std  I to IX . All the school staff members
and Judges were presented with Saplings. The programme
ended with Vote of thanks and National Anthem. The

Bhaktavatsalam Vidyashram Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Celebration

“DaanUtsav’’The Joy of Giving
Sharing is a very important part of social and emotional
development. BhaktavatsalamVidyashram commemorated
DaanUtsav by sharing time and gifts with the under
privileged; spreading and experiencing the joy of giving at
“Sevalaya“a charitable trust on 21st October 2019.
Essential commodities, food grains, pulses and groceries
were collected by the Karuna Club and Interact club
members of the school and donated to Sevalaya.
Students visited the elderly people at the old age home.
They interacted with the inmates, shared their love and sang
songs for them. The care shown to them by the caretakers
at the home was indeed inspiring.
The programme concluded with a motivational speech on
compassion by Sevalaya’s Advisor. Through this activity
the students realized that being compassionate towards
all living beings is our rich cultural heritage. Both the givers
and receivers shared warm and happy moments together.
31st October is observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas all over
the country to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the
great freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
Bhaktavatsalam Vidyashram celebrated this day with
enthusiasm and fervour. Nearly 400 students took part in a
Rally to promote unity and peace. They covered a distance
of 3 kms raising slogans to highlight the importance of
national integrity and national pride. Members of Karuna
Club of B.V, Scouts & Guides led the rally under the
guidance of Principal Mrs. N. Vijayalakshmi and Vice
Principal Mr.G.Nagalingam.
The students carried placards to spread the ideals
propagated by Sardar Patel. The rally sowed the seeds of
oneness in the young minds. The school aims at promoting
national integration with an holistic approach.

“Be Alert, Avert Fire “And Spread the Diwali Cheer

Fire Safety Drill was conducted by Tamilnadu Fire and
Rescue Services at Bhaktavatsalam Vidyashram on 25th
October 2019. Mr.Paul Raj, District Fire Officer, Ambattur
Division presided over the drill.
The District officer addressed the students regarding
the safety measures to be followed at home while using
LPG, and while bursting crackers and during emergency
fires. A team of fire fighters headed by the station officer A One day Students Training Programme for IXth
demonstrated the safety drills to be undertaken while std  students was conducted  on 22.10.2019 in our school
bursting crackers. Students were made aware of the premises . The programme started at 10 am with lighting the

150th Birthday Celebration of Gandhiji
Our school conducted a Rally on Peace and Non-
Violence. Children sang “Raghupathi Ragava Rajaram
“ and began the Rally holding placards with quotes and
slogans on non-violence and peace. The rally started from
the school and went onto the lanes of Harrington Road.
The public were happy to see school children promoting Children from class 8th were taken to an orphanage on

Vani Vidyalaya Sr Sec School
A Peace Rally was organised on 2nd November 2019
at K.K.Nagar. 116 students of class XI participated in the
rally with placards holding the quotes of Mahatma Gandhi.
The rally started from school and 9.00 a.m and covered a
distance of 1.8kms along Pondicherry Guesthouse and
other streets of K.K.Nagar. Permission was granted by the
Commissioner of Police and the traffic police assisted us
throughout the rally.
The Rally came to a conclusion after the speech given by
the Principal regarding the values and beliefs of Mahatma
Gandhi. Refreshment was provided to all the participants.
A Human Chain was organized by the Karuna Club of Vani
Vidyalaya Senior Secondary & Junior College on account
of Abdul Kalam’s birthday. Mr. Prakash Chand Gulecha
presided over the function.   Placards and boards were
made by 80 children of class IX on the  quotes of Abdul
Kalam. Mr Guleccha distributed the gifts to encourage

International Peace Day Celebration
International Peace Day was celebrated by 450 students of
Classes VI to VIII, Jain Vidyaashram, Puzhal on 12.10.2019
Saturday. Students lined up for a Peace Rally with banners,
posters and placards prepared by them to disseminate the
message of ‘Peace and Prosperity’ and universal values
of Ethics and Discipline. The onlookers appreciated this
involvement of students in this social activity of spreading
such precious messages.
The Rally was flagged off from the Jain Vidyaashram School
Campus to Puzhal Bus Stop under the supervision of the
Puzhal M3 Police and the teachers. Students, Teachers,
Chief Guest, Management gathered in a Special Assembly
which started with the Karuna Prayer, followed by a Karuna
Pledge for Peace. Mr.Sajjan Jain, Vice President, Karuna
explained the value of peace.
Rangoli, Face Painting and Fancy Dress Competitions
were conducted; students participated in large numbers.
The Chief Guest distributed the prizes to the winners.The
celebration came to an end with the National Anthem.
Goushala Visit
The students of grades VI, VII, VIII of Jain Vidyaashram
visited Goushala on 08/11/19 where a large number of
cows are given shelter and taken good care. The visit was
a unique experience in order to inculcate compassion in the
young minds. Teachers explained in detail how cows are
fed and are taken care of. They were also explained how
they are important for the environment.Children were able
to feed the cows grass, banana and jaggery.

A Day in Sevalaya
On Saturday 05:10:19, 41 students of 9th, 10th& 11th
went to Sevalaya as one of the Karuna activities. Some
of our students also donated old clothes. Students spent

on Saturday 09/11/2019 The Programme commenced with

a vegetarian way of life. He conducted many motivational
games for our school teachers. I admired the way he was
narrating the story, capturing the attention of 70 teachers
from our school and also two teachers from Valliammal
School.
Shri L.Pattabiraman laid emphasis on all life ethics and
how to handle situations in all walks of life. During the
last session, he gave a brief explanation about values like
affection, compassion, patience tolerance, love for all living
beings, social responsibility and love for nature.

Clean India Campaign
A small step of every Indian citizen can be a big step for
fulfilling the purpose of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s
‘Clean India’ campaign. In connection with this, “clean
surroundings” campaign was started in the first week of
August 2019. The students of Karuna Club of our Vidyalaya
volunteered to clean all the lawns on the daily basis.
Speech Competition on “Save Environment”
A Speech Competition was held on the topic “Save
Environment” on 29th October 2019 at our Vidyalaya.
This was initiated to bring in the awareness about the
clean and healthy environment. Students of Karuna
club enthusiastically participated with thought provoking
speeches and attractive props. Children detailed about
the following topics

PSBB T Nagar Chennai has celebrated Kindness Week
in which students wrote poems, stories, slogans on Karuna
and kindness. Skits were also performed.
Children of small classes celebrated compassion and
kindness towards animals as per the part of Karuna Club
activity. Students drew these pictures and narrated stories
of animals and presented a drama on Save The Jungle.

from our school briefed the importance of Ahimsa to the

Karuna Club of Jawahar Vidyalaya Sr. Sec. School, Ashok
Nagar conducted Ahimsa Rally on 11.10.2019 .Mr.Prakash
Gulecha Jain, Vice President Karuna International Chennai
Kendra was the Chief Guest who flagged off the Rally.
Nearly 100 children participated in the rally holding placards
with the message of Peace, Karuna and Non Violence. The
rally covered a distance of about 2km in Ashok Nagar. Best
15 placards were given the prizes. Those who participated
got motivation prizes. The prizes were distributed by the
Chief Guest and the teachers.
The rally was successful with the efforts of Mr.M.Vaidyanathan,
Mrs.K.Lalitha, Mrs.K.M.Sabitha, Mrs.Renu Gangadaran
Ms.Pakkiyalakshmi & Mrs.Jeyashree. The children actively
participated in the rally in a well disciplined manner .NCC
