B. Review

Before we proceed to our new lesson for this

morning, let us have first a recap on our previous
topic.

Class, can you still remember our past lesson? Yes, Sir!

What was the topic we had discussed last meeting? Sir, it was all about measuring tools and equipment
in drafting.
Good! What are those tools?
Sir, the measuring tools used in drawing are:
Compass, Ruler, Triangle, Protractor and Triangular
Very good! scale.
C. Motivation

Now, before we start with our lesson for this

morning, let me ask you some questions first.

I think we are all familiar with the English alphabet, Yes, Sir!
right?

Now, how many letters are there in the English 26, Sir!
Alphabet?

Very good! How about the letters in the Filipino 20, Sir!
Alphabet?

What do you think is the importance of the alphabet? Sir, the Alphabet is the basic unit of words. Without
them, words are not formed and therefore, language
is nothing and communication will not take place.

Very good class! And just like the drawing, It is made

up of lines. Lines are used to communication ideas
visually. In Drafting field, these lines are called
alphabet of lines. Each line has its own meaning and
bears unique identity. This enables drafters and
engineers transmit their designs accurately and
understand each drawing clearly.

D. Presentation

Based from the questions I have asked you, Drawing

are interpreted using a different set of graphical
symbols called Alphabet of lines. And that will be our
lesson for today. Here are our Lesson Objectives:

At the end of the learning period, you are expected

to:

A. Recognize the alphabet of lines.

B. Demonstrate ability in drawing alphabet of
lines.
C. Appraise the importance of familiarizing the
alphabet of lines in interpreting working plans.

Class, before we start our discussion, we will have

first another activity.

E. Lesson Proper

Activity

The class will be divided into four groups. Read and

interpret the given figure below. Identify the
numbered lines used to draw the object. Place your
answer on a separate sheet of paper.

You have two (2) minutes to perform this activity. Did

you understand it class?
Yes, Sir!
Good, you may now begin!
(The students will perform their activity.)
Analysis

Class, based on the given activity, why do you think

working plans are drawn using a set of different of
lines? Sir, a working plan is a detailed drawing that shows
the location, dimension and size of the object that
must be drawn clearly and accurately. And to do so,
different set of lines are used to set each parts and
details apart from each other. Making it more

What is Alphabet of lines and what is its importance

in drafting? Sir, Alphabet of line are set of lines that has unique
meaning. In order to make the drawing easier to read
and understand, each kind of line is drawn with

considered as the backbone of drawing. A thorough
understanding of these lines will help us understand
an assembly or detailed drawing precisely.

Now let’s take a closer look on each of the Alphabet

of Lines.

What is Visible line?

Sir, Visible line – a thick line that represents the

Next is the Hidden line.

Sir, Hidden line – a medium thick line composed of

Another is Centre line. What is it?

Sir, Center line – a thin line consisting of two long
dashes and short dash drawn alternately with a gap
of at least 2 millimeters in between; it represents the
axis or center of symmetrical shapes like a ball,
washer, rectangular block, cube.
Very good! How about the Section line?
Sir, Section line – a thin lines to show the surface
that has been cut; they are spaced evenly at 45
degrees with the horizontal to make shaded effect.
Very good! And what is Extension line?
Sir, Extension line – a thin line that extends from
the object in order to show dimension limits.
Very good! And lastly, we have Dimension line. What
is it? Sir, Dimension line – a thin line with an arrowhead
in one end used to indicate the measurements of the

Abstraction

Now class, let’s take a quick recap of our lesson for

this morning.

Again, what is Alphabet of lines?

Sir, Alphabet of line are set of lines that has unique
meaning. In order to make the drawing easier to read
and understand, each kind of line is drawn with
different line weights.
Very good! Can you give the example of Alphabet of
lines? Yes, Sir. The following are examples of Alphabet of
lines: Visible line, Section line, Hidden line,
Dimension line and Extension line.
Very good, Class! Do you have any questions
regarding the Alphabet of lines? None, Sir!

Application

This time, you will draw the Alphabet of lines

according to the its drawing standards.

You only have ten (10) minutes to perform the

activity. Students will perform the given activity:

You will be rated based on the following Rubrics

below: Kind of Lines Sketch of the Lines
Short-break line
Proposed Rubrics for Scoring Center line
Extension line
