PRACTICUM REFLECTION

Previously I thought that to be a primary school teacher is an easy


implementation of a teaching process but apparently it turns our
differently. Once I learned all the knowledge and theory in UNITAR for a
year then I know that teaching in primary schools need teachers to have
high skills in the process of implementing the teaching and learning
process in order to attract students in the process T&L in the classroom.

All the knowledge that I gained for one year at UNITAR will be tested to
see how far I can apply what I have learned in the implementation
process of the actual teaching and learning in schools.

I am going to teach subject Islamic education at Asia Pacific Smart


School for Primary 4, Primary 5 and Primary 6 students.

First day begins at 1:00 pm at the early time of the day learning session.
In the morning, I did some homework in the preparation of resource
materials to be used in the session T&L in class later.

The students are so eager to act. They were so excited when I ask them to
play the character that I have figure out. Overall, I believe I have met the
objective of this lesson.

I was observed by the chief coordinator of the Islamic Education, Puan


Wan Nur Syahirah. Though I have the experience once before but I do
still feel nervous, especially when carrying out T&L session in the
classroom. I tried to calm myself and think positive so that I would be
able to perform the teaching activities smoothly.

But probably because I was too occupied with explaining the first step, it
was dragged and leading to time management and the next step had to be
shortened. Despite that, the objective has been achieved. Overall I am
satisfied with the cooperation given by the students during the teaching
process.

After the observation completed, I met with the chief coordinator of


Islamic Education to get comments from her. It turns out that my
assumption was correct. My weakness was in terms of time management.
I will try to follow the time plan for my teaching and learning in the
coming sessions.
  

The long-awaited day finally arrived and today is my first day I will be
supervised by the head of the department, Mrs Nurul Huda bt Mohamad.
Scared, nervous, embarrassed, everything jumbled up.

I try to strengthen myself, pray to Allah to cool myself down. It turns out
that at the beginning of my teaching I am so nervous when giving
information to the students. After a while, I managed to control my
emotions and able to teach the students well. The objective of teaching on
that day has been achieved.

The comments from the head of the department will be used as guidelines
and guidance in my future T&L.

1. Problems
The problem is centered on classroom discipline where students always
make a noise when I am carrying out T&L session in the classroom.

2. Analysis
This problem arises because the students did not listen to the teacher's
instructions.

3. Proposals to improve

There are several proposals can be implemented to raise the issues that
exist, namely:
i. My T&L should be in line with the interests and abilities of the
students in a classroom.
ii. I wish to be more firm with the students during the teaching
process.
iii. I also will develop daily teaching activities more attractive in
order to attract students to learn and continue to enjoy your session
p & p up to the end of the lesson.
iv. I will also provide worksheets that correspond to the abilities of
each student so that they do not make noise when in the classroom.

4. The period of time


I will try to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. This is important
because it will determine the smoothness of the T&L me in the next few
weeks.

5. Evaluation of success
I have managed to control the behavior of pupils in the classroom and
also carry out T&L activities to attract more students’ attention.

6. Follow-up
I will try to overcome all my problems in earnest. Where I will try to find
information to get an interesting idea in the planning of the activities in
the classroom so that my teaching will be so much better. I expect to be
able to overcome this problem.

Conclusion
Many people find that they will learn from experience. This is where
Gibbs' Reflective Cycle is useful. It can be used to help us make sense of
situations at work, so that we can understand what we have done well and
what we could do better in the future. By using Gibbs techniques, we
could learn to improve our T&L to have a better result.
