Subject: Fairy tale writing workshop- Day 4 & 5 Section: Weiler

I. Objectives and Standards


 Standard(s) Standard - 9.1.V.2.E1-Use imagination and creativity to express self
through visual arts.
 Standard - CC.1.4.2.M- Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences
or events.

A. Performance Objectives: The students will be able to effectively apply the


characteristics of fairy tales to their writing and create a completed story piece
consisting of an original written story and matching visual art illustrations.

II. Instructional Materials

 Pen
 Final copy paper
 Cover paper
 Example of cover of fairy tale
 Laptop & doc camera

 Writing folder
 Brainstorming sheets and drafts
 Pencils
 Colored pencils & crayons
 Final copy papers

III. Subject Matter Explanation


A. Prior Knowledge
 Characteristics of fair tales learned earlier in unit
B. Prerequisite skills:
 How to form letters
 How to write complete sentences
C. New Knowledge
 How to use visual art to add pictures and meaning to an original
story
IV. Implementation
A. Introduction:
 Explain that students will be spending their writing time finishing
rough drafts and beginning final copies
 Explain that once final copies are completed students may illustrate
their work
 Show book cover on doc camera, explain that students may write the
title of their story and draw a picture on this sheet to make a front
cover for their fairy tale
 Remind students to put their name on the cover
 Encourage the use of color and creativity on cover

B. Development
 Circulate and meet with students to edit first drafts during this
writing workshop time
 Remind students to stay on task
 Remind students final written copies must be completed before fairy
tale book covers may be illustrated
 Make sure all students have moved on to a first draft- at this point all
brainstorming sheets must be completed and approved
 Remind students to only write final copy with a pencil
 Remind students to reread final copy looking at spelling, punctuation
and end marks

C. Closure
 Explain that students will have another work day tomorrow to work
on final drafts and fairy tale book covers
 Have students place all work in writing folders
