Objective of Activity:  To encourage students to know about Hackathon culture


and take active participation in real time issues or problems
using NASA open data.
 To bring forth the innovative ideas and solutions to the
problem statements provided by Space Apps Team.
 Students selected in Pre-Qualification will be sent to local
level of Hackathon to compete with different Zonal winners.

Description of Activity
(Minimum 500 words) The Nasa International Space App Challenge is a collaborative
(Give brief event lead by NASA conducted in different cities all around the
description) world to bring out solutions for everyday problems using
opensource technologies. It’s a hackathon conducted amongst
colleges where students pitch their ideas and innovations to solve
problems in the society. Nasa leads this global collaboration along
with a number of government collaborators and over 100 local
organising teams across the globe.

The event began with the mentors giving a talk to the participants
about the event. This was followed by the elevator pitch where al,
the registered teams who were given 2 minutes to pitch their ideas.
This was followed by lunch break after which the students had to
work on their ideas with mentor support wherever needed. The
mentors were from various background like cloud computing, web
application development etc. The participants gained the
knowledge talking with them. The mentors too appreciated their
efforts.
The fun session rejuvenated the students. This was followed by
second round of scrutiny where the teas were given 3 to 5 minutes
to explain their work until then.
The final the pitching session was conducted where 8 teams were
selected from the zone which ended the hackathon. The winners
were selected based on how technically sound they were their
creativity and the open data sets used by the students.

Your Role & As a volunteer I was supposed to help organizers of the event. I was

(Minimum 250 words) to inform about the event. I was sent with a group and we also
setup a marketing desk in colleges for getting entries and informing
students.
On the day of event, my main task was to make sure participants
were having enough resources and provide them with any
assistance that I could give. As a volunteer we were assigned
different duties by organizers to handle all participants. We
provided food (lunch, dinner, breakfast) tea and snacks, water and
wi-fi. We were all assigned with different duties to manage all these
amenities.
