SLU ADVISORY

19 March 2020

Saint Louis University is deeply concerned with the well-being of its faculty, staff and students during
this enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) period. Please take all necessary precautions as
repeatedly announced by the government to ensure everyone’s safety amid the COVID-19 situation.

SLU is also equally concerned with the students’ continuing education during this prolonged time of
class suspension. That is why the University continues to provide opportunities for alternative
learning for students which they can engage in from the security of their homes.

To facilitate the continuity of learning during this period, the following will be our guidelines:

1. Learning shall be reasonable and compassionately administered via e-learning during the
ECQ period. However, on-line classes will not be conducted. Faculty members shall utilize
the SLU iPortal to make learning materials available on-line to our students. Google
Classroom or Social Networking Sites (SNS) like Messenger, Facebook and other accessible
platforms to students can be used as alternative or supplementary tools.
2. Upload supplementary course materials and post information that are textual to facilitate
downloading and to address concerns on weak or limited internet connection. Materials
with videos and other presentations with heavy file sizes are not allowed.
3. Provide reasonable and doable activities that can meet the minimum and basic learning
outcomes of the course. The requirements emanating from the on-line activities will be
submitted when classes resume.
4. Observe the no on-line quiz, no synchronous discussions, no outdoor activities, and no
submission of requirements on-line policy.
5. Apply accommodation for differentiated instruction for students who have limited or do not
have internet access upon the resumption of classes. Provide them workable tasks that will
help them cope with the missed activities.
6. Department Heads shall coordinate among faculty members teaching the same course the
adjustment of the course syllabi requirements focusing on the attainment of the core
competencies.
7. Observe utmost consideration and leniency in facilitating the courses in favor of the welfare
of the students.

There will be reasonable contingency measures with respect to course requirements and
performance evaluation in the current situation and in the event the ECQ is extended during the
semester. In the meantime, we urge everyone to stay at home and observe the quarantine protocols.

Rest assured that SLU continues to monitor the situation, and it will make announcements as needed
through its official channels of communication for everyone’s guidance.

Let us all pray that the merciful Lord Jesus Christ will look kindly upon us and heal us from the
pandemic.
