Lesson Title: American Artist Recreation Project

Objectives:

Given a list of famous American artists, students will use artist research to interpret meaning
and chose an artist who’s work they relate to.

Students will use art work to better understand political, social, and cultural movements
throughout American history through artistic investigation.

Given artistic research, the student will chose one work of art from an American artist to
recreate and provide a brief explanation about their artist.

Evidence of completion:
Google Classroom question
Posting of progress photos
Completion of recreated work from selected artist

Agenda:
Day 1:
Look over the American artists on the Art Institute of Chicago’s page:
https://www.artic.edu/highlights/6/highlights-of-american-art

Select an artist that interests you from the list on this page.

Post a brief description of this artist to the thread on Google Classroom.

Day 2:
Conduct research about your selected artist and look over their artwork.
Select a piece of your artist’s work and post a picture to the Google Classroom Thread.

Days 3/4:
Recreate the artwork you selected and post a progress picture to Google Classroom.
Post a final picture of your recreated work to the Assignments page on Google classroom.
Also, comment an artist statement that answers the following questions:
Why did you choose this artist? Did you relate to their work or did you find it interesting to look at?
What do you think your selected artwork was about? Were there any challenges you faced while
making your work?
