Lesson Title: Cryptids and Urban Legends

Objectives:

Given Chromebooks and information about cryptids and urban legends,

students will use artistic research to find out about a chosen cyrtid or urban
legend and successfully recreate this cryptid or urban legend using their pencil.

Students will creatively design a creature and use a two-dimensional sketch to

render a three-dimensional object.

Evidence of completion:
Google Classroom Question
Research of an Urban Legend or Myth, or cryptid
Creation of a creature based on an urban legend or myth or cryptid.

Submit Attendances
Day 1:
Look through the different examples of urban legends and myths. Chose an urban
legend or cryptid provided or chose one that you have heard of that isn’t listed.
Post to the Google Classroom Thread a short description of the urban legend that you
researched.

Day 2:
Look over all of the ways that artists have depicted these urban legends in drawings,
movies, video games, or graphics.
Come up with an original design of how you could portray your selected urban legend
or myth.

Day 3:
Continue working on the design of your Urban legend or myth. Remember to include a
background if it helps tell more about your urban legend or myth!
Post a progress photo to the Google Classroom Thread.

Day 4:
Finish your Urban Legend Drawing.
Post a photo of your completed drawing to the Google Classroom Assignments page.

Urban Legend-
an often-lurid story or anecdote that is based on hearsay and widely circulated as
true

a humorous or horrific story or piece of information circulated as though true,

especially one purporting to involve someone vaguely related or known to the teller.

Cryptid-

An obscure, undocumented creature typically originating from folklore.

Typically mythological in nature, but not necessarily supernatural, their existence is
only recognized as pseudoscience.

an animal (such as Sasquatch or the Loch Ness Monster ) that has been claimed to
exist but never proven to exist
