5. WHAT ARE YOU APPLYING FOR?

 Provide summary description of the farming operation:

This Poultry project is a project that is formed under Sakha Isizwe Sibanye Multi – purpose Primary Co-operative
Limited by the group of young enthusiastic, passionate and driving individuals. The project is set to promote the
creation of jobs to unemployed youth (both skilled and unskilled) and poverty alleviation. Our project focus on
two niches Egg production (Layers breeding) and Meat production (Broilers breeding) and sale of livestock
chicken for meat and eggs, hence this transformation is aimed at satisfying people’s needs. We value our
customers because we want to provide them with basic need which is protein in the form of white meat. With
increased awareness on health effects or red meat; there is an increased demand for white meat (chicken and
eggs). Growing population has a positive impact on our project, as high level of population means high demand
for food (egg and meat).
Our target markets are wholesalers, retailers, B&B, catteries, restaurants, meat processing companies, butchers
and public markets.

The project is situated at Qombolo A/A, Nkomfeni as regarded as a rural area, central in Tsomo and Cofimvaba.

Production

Our alternatives is to buy day – old chicks and grow them in certain weeks, then sell them either as live or
slaughtered as on the other production we will sell eggs. The following is our poultry production focus:

The Livestock farming is implemented on the following stages:

Stage (i) - Acquisition of chicks etc.


Stage (ii) - Medical
Stage (iii) - Reproduction (breeding)
Stage (iv) - Slaughtering
However the availability of funds will enable us to increase the farm production as to provide what
people/customers need.

a. Poultry: Day old chicks, Point of lay chickens, feed, medication and sawdust; 
 500 Broiler day old chicks
 100 Point of lay chickens
 13 bags @ 50kg each bag of Starter feed
 21 bags @ 50kg each bag of Grower feed
 27 bags @ 50kg each bag of Post finisher feed 89 bags @ 50kg’s of feed
 25 bags @ 50kg each bag of Powerlay utility lay meal
 60 bags of Sawdust
Technical capability, please describe:

Technically and professionally competent guidance is available to the farmers. Considering the fact that number
of entrepreneurs entering the agricultural industries – crop farming and livestock farming are increasing. From
the past years released report the South African Poultry Association said more people can be employed with the
right support measures from the government and curbing of imports. And of-course eggs and meat are
important sources of high quality proteins, minerals with also vitamins from vegetables to balance the human
diet. With increased awareness on health implications or red meat, there is an increased demand for white
meat as well as growing population means high demand for food (vegetables, egg and meat).
Unique product - In our poultry we on a mission to implement a new strategy in our production which is going
to attract customers and challenge our competitors, such strategy is in the form of rearing free-range chicken.
Identify critical competencies – soft competencies encompass abilities such as communications, and talent
management which we are possessing. We also follow hard competencies include skills such as marketing.

 Market and off take agreements (or letters of intent to be converted into offtake agreements); please
describe

 Yet the in our poultry farm we are not in that position where we specifically focusing in big
markets. As we grow, our goal is to compete with bigger companies in poultry industry where
we would attract or win as many clients or customers.
 Currently there is a potential of customers who buy our products in bulk. A professional
document is not yet drafted for small markets such as caterers and small restaurants, besides
they buy our stock (dressed chickens). About five of them have been approached with letters of
intent for supply is in the process.
 We managed to source for bigger market such DICLA Training and Projects. The company does
business with us; they are buying our stock (dressed chicken).
 Fundamentally the farm enjoys and excited about an explosive local customers especially who
buys as many of our products (chickens).

Technical support from provincial departments and other provincial organizations (commodity organisations);
please describe:

Youth development/ empowerment are regarded as one of the headlines for the South African government
(initially).Access and support initiatives by organisations such as SEDA, LED etc are open to our projects. Hence
that guidance is always provided as we have been given mentors who are helping us. With also services that
department of Agriculture in our region guides us.
Lastly with this is potential financial support by department it will bring a change in our poultry production and
to people .
