AMAZON WILFDFIRE REFLECTION

“The vital links between the Amazon rainforest, global warming and you”

The Amazon rainforest has long been recognized as a repository of ecological services not
only for local tribes and communities, but also for the rest of the world. It is also the only
rainforest that we have left in terms of size and diversity. But as forests burn and global warming
worsens, the impact of Amazon deforestation continues to gradually undo the fragile ecological
processes that have been refined over millions of years. Ironically, as rainforest continues to
disappear, scientific work from the last two decades has shed light on the critical ties that link
the health of rainforests to the rest of the world.

The world is facing incredibly serious environmental challenges. One of the challenges
that the earth went through is the Amazon Forest Fire. Amazon serves as the lungs of the earth in
which twenty percent of the oxygen is produced to sustain lives, and because of the recent incident
many trees were burned and many endangered animals died.

There are a lot of conspiracy theories about the wildfire in Amazon, and based on my
perception, there are two possible angles that caused the forest fire. First is the geographic location
of the Amazon Forest. Since that the Amazon is located in Brazil, it is expected that the region is
a tropical country in which they experienced the intense temperature of the sunlight during dry
seasons. Second, the man made forest fire, there are group of people that is behind the wildfire in
Amazon, and one of the reason why they do that, is to build a infrastructure in a certain area but it
turns out that the whole forest affected, the trees were burned and hundred thousands of endangered
species died.

As a student, there are so many things to prevent that kind of incident. But there are also
many people that think most of their wants instead of needs. Yes! People have needs. Mostly of
our needs came from our nature. We are being created to take care of what is given to us especially
to the earth that serves our shelter. We can protect our nature especially our forest by preserving
them. By means of stopping the mining, illegal logging, and burning our forest. We people have
the power to do what is best for our nature and stop doing bad practices just for our self-interest.
We cannot avoid the natural phenomena but we can prevent the bad practices that is being instilled
to us. It is never too late to start and do good things. We people have the voice to speak the truth.
To use our voice to promote environmental awareness and earth preservation. We can use social
media in disseminating information so that people may become aware on the happenings in our
society. By posting awareness tips, and do’s and don’ts about our nature, we can enlighten them
about the reality that are environment especially the forest is our source of our life and we need to
care of that. The forest is one of the sources of our living, where we can get mostly of the air we
breathe, but it doesn’t mean that we need to take all the privileges in our forest. Our forest is also
like us that needs supports and care to sustain their lives. We should not abuse our environment
because they give us life.

With the Amazon fire, we are now experiencing the catastrophic effect in climate change.
Restoring our forest is not an easy task to do as it requires not just planting the trees but bringing
back an ecosystem comprising wildlife and waterways. It takes how many years to restore the
damages in Amazon. This incident is an eye opener to each one of us. It gives us the enlighten that
before we do an action we should think first, we need analyze first what are the possibilities if we
arrive on that certain decision. The man-made forest fire was a bad decision that human has made.
They did not think about the possibilities but they only think for their wants, desire and ambition.
The only thing that we can do as of now is to be a vigilant. We need to help one another to restore
the life of Amazon forest. We need the help one another to rehabilitate the important source of life
that we lost because loosing forest is also losing our own life.

ACTIVITY

1. What are the environmental programs, advocacy, and campaign of NDTC is implementing?
Are these sustainable?
The environmental program that NDTC is implementing is the Green College Program in
which the students are all obliged to participate in the community service done by the CSC. The
said program aims to lessen the waste and eradicate the use of plastics. Aside from that, the
NDTC Student Council is collaborating with different clubs in college such as Junior Mentors Club.
It is not sustainable in a sense that some of the students especially the college are irresponsible
when it comes to their wastes. We cannot fully achieve the success of the program because of
the bad practices that is already inculcated to the mind of the students.

2. What mechanisms or processes does NDTC follow to promote these programs, advocacies,
and campaign?

The process or the mechanisms done by the NDTC is to establish a program that can help
the students especially to the school to have an environment friendly institution by the
establishing the following:
• The No plastics Bottles and Cellophane Policy
• Clean as you Go (CLAYGO)
• Clean Up Drive
• LINIS ALAY KAY MARIA
• ENVIRONMENTAL SIGNAGES

3. Provide pictures
SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN UNDERSTANDING CULTURE, SOCIETY, AND POLITICS
I. Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Identify the different characteristics of culture;
b. Internalize the importance of the characteristic of culture in their development as
a person;
c. Write a composition expressing their thoughts on how they can use their knowledge
on these characteristics in the development and in saving our culture from extinction for
the next generation.

II. Content:
a. Subject Matter: Characteristics of Culture
b. Reference: Understanding Culture, Society, and Politics Gerry M. Lanuza and Sarah S.
Raymundo; page 196-197

b. Motivation
The teacher will show a picture of an identical twin and let them look at it
thoroughly. After 1 minute, she will ask the students if what they have noticed.
