6 Venting Calculation
Venting for the geodesic dome roof will be determined by API 650, Section 5.8.5. This section states that tanks designed in
accordance with this standard and having a fixed roof and internal floating roof shall satisfy the requirements of Annex H.
Section H.5.2.2 of API 650 calls for perimeter vents (above the seal of the floating roof) with a total open area equal to or greater
than 0.2 ft2 [0.0186m2] per foot of tank diameter. These perimeter vents should be covered with corrosion-resistant mesh screen
with 1/2" [12.7mm] openings. It also calls for an open vent of 50 in2 [0.032m2] minimum to be located as close as possible to the
center or the highest elevation of the roof.

Given

Tank Diameter = 76.2 m

Vertical height from top of tank to flashing Ht = 25.2984 mm
Peripheral Vent Quantity = 1

Venting area required by API, Annex H;

Areq (0.0186m2/ft dia.) * Tank Diameter = 4.65 m2
Venting area provided due to perimeter flashing configuration:
Aprovide (Tank Diameter *Ht*Π) = 6.06 m2
Aprovide = 6.06 m2 > Areq = 4.65 m2

Therefore, the perimeter venting area provided exceeds the venting area required.

In addition, one 24in (610mm) dia greenheck vent is provided at the top of geodesic dome.
Diameter of greenheck center vent = 610 mm
Center Vent Quantity = 1
Aprovide center (Vent diameter)2* Π/4 * Vent Quantity = 0.292 m2
Areq center = 0.032 m2
Aprovide center = 0.29 m2 > Areq = 0.03 m2

Therefore, the venting requirement are within API 650, Annex H.

Note: Normal venting and emergency venting are not required because Annex H.5.2.2 is satisfied.
