1. Olivia was pleased to be employed at Watkins Advertising. She has been on
e, today everything
andchanged. Deanna, her supervisor, asked Olivia to
the job for three months and feels comfortable with her new responsibilities.
However,
create spreadsheet to forecast the costs for the product presentations in Kansas
City Image
and Denver next month. Olivia was frantic -- she had worked with
spreadsheets before but had only limited experience creating them from scratch.
Deanna suggested that the Help feature of the software would be Olivia's best
resource, but she also said she would be available if Olivia needed help getting
started, Olivia replied, "Oh, thank you. I'm sure I can figure it out. I've worked
with spreadsheets." But she couldn't figure it out, and her frustrations were
beginning to show. To make matters worse, she observed a coworker creating a
spreadsheet with obvious ease. Olivia thought to herself, " I'll never be able to
complete this spreadheet. Maybe I shouldn't have taken this job."
What signs do you see that Olivia has some self-esteem issues? What
would you suggest that Olivia do to complete the spreasheets? (10
points)

because of the decision she made. She was easily frustrated. She feels weak
and incompetent. She should build her self-esteem by engaging in a positive
self-talk, focus on her own achievements, don’t think negatively about herself,
and don’t ever neglect her own capabilities. Moreoever, in order for her to
complete the speadsheet, I would want to tell her that she should believe that it
is better for her to try and fail than fail to try. There's nothing wrong in trying,
there's nothing wrong in taking risks that her supervisor will not like her work,
there's nothing wrong in failing, there's nothing wrong in getting disappointment.
What's wrong is when she cowardly think about what might happen in the long
run without having a try. It's when all she can do is to overlook about the
possibilities if she able to did this and that. Olivia seems to be losing an act and I
wanted to tell her also that she should start moving because after the exhausting
process, she will be able to thank herself because it was all worth it.

person who is always rooting for other people’s success. As compared to him,
Lakisha is a type of person who is concious in her own dignity and who prides
herself in whatever she may do and she can do just to lend a helping hand for
her coworkers and with that environment, Anthony became disgusted and
insecure which leads him to make gossips about his supervisor to degrade her.
What Anthony is showing are unproductive attitudes which includes being
disrespectful, rude, carelessness, conceited, and envious. Moreover, I think his
attitude was affected by negative circumstances, like he always wanted to be on
top, but he cannot reach it, and that drags him down rather than lift him up. In
order for him to adjust his attitude, he should think that negative situations will
end and are not all-encompassing. It should be bestowed to him that he will
work through difficult situations and problems but he can also move on with that
kind life, that in the end, what matters most is good attitude than compliment and
admiration. He should also learn to recognize negative attitudes which are
unproductive and not worthy of his energy.
2. Karl, a college freshman, works part time as a clerk in the local hardware
store. His supervisor, Mr. Sioudi, thinks Karl is an exceptionally mature young
man. When asked why he considered Karl mature, Mr. Soiudi replied: " Seldom
do we get a beginning worker, especially one who works only a part time, who
fits in so well and accepts responsibility as Karl does. He arrives on time for
work, dresses appropriately, and always makes a good appearance. He uses
good judgement when he answers customers' questions and speaks at
moderate rate speed so others can understand him easily. He is dependable.
We feel fortunate to have him here. We hope
he will join us full time when he graduates."
What traits did Karl exhibit that led Mr. Sioudi to hope that Karl would
return as a full time employee? Justify
your answer. (10 points)

instill to him that achievements without hard work are impossible. An idle person
can never gain anything if they sit and wait for a better opportunity to come. Karl
works so hard and rest assured that he will be able to gain success and
happiness in life. Nothing is easy to be achieved in life without doing any hard
work. Mr. Sioudi looks Karl as a passionate person. He believed that dedicated
people are passionate about the commitments they make and the goals they
set. He is hoping that Karl would return as a full time employee because he saw
in him the passion, commitment, self-discipline, inspiration and flexibility which
gives him the strength to do the hard things. His constant vigilance and
preparedness to work is the price he have to pay for success in life.
