Problem 7

A cylinder is inscribed in a cube.

Find the volume of the solid inside
the cube but outside the cylinder. Or calculate the area multiplied to the height;

2
Volume of Cylinder, Vcy
𝑉𝑐𝑦 = 𝜋 𝑟 2ℎ
𝑉𝑐𝑦 = 𝜋 1 2 2
V =(Acu – Acy)h

V =([2x2] – [π(12)])2

2
2 𝑉𝑐𝑦 = 6.2832

Required Volume, V
V =(4 – 3.1416)2
V =(0.8584) x 2 2
0
V = 1.7168
Volume of Cube, Vcu
V = VCu – Vcy
Vcu = a x b x c
Vcu = 2 x 2 x 2 V = 8 – 6.2832

Vcu = 8 V = 1.7168
