Please offer a few brief comments in support of the checklist ratings.

Domain 1: Planning and Preparation


Ian has been willing to try new ideas and techniques and has learned that no everything is perfect on the first
try. The areas that I rated him a (2) in are having a "big picture" in mind when creating a lesson or unit.
These goals and objectives will help the students see the "why are we learning about this" and hopefully
transfer the intended goals of the lesson outside of the classroom.

Domain 2: The Classroom Environment


Ian's classrooms are very much student-centered learning environments where the students are reading,
collaborating, and sharing their thoughts and. ideas on a daily basis with each other and the instructor.
The main area I see a need for growth is with classroom management with students who are off-task or
who talk when they aren't supposed to. The type of classroom Ian is trying to model (the
student-centered) is not as easy to manage as a teacher-centered classroom so I am confident Ian will improve
and learn to manage a classroom environment where there is more talking than a traditional classroom.
Ian has already taken steps to try to address my concerns with classroom management ut needs to
improve on the real-time addressing of these issues.
Domain 3: Instruction

Ian develops lessons and instruction that are relevant to students. Ian should continue to grow in his
questioning techniques and remember to always get the students to answer the "why" with their
responses. Another area that I think Ian could improve upon is having a clear objective as per "why"
the students are learning the lesson (as stated above with the other "domain" comments)

Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities


Ian has done a great job communicating with students and giving appropriate feedback. I have no
concerns with anything under Domain 4.
